Obituary: Marquette County, Wisconsin: Salina KENDALL ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, April 2008 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From The Montello Sun, February 25, 1882, Page 5 AT REST Mrs. Salina KENDALL, widow of the late F. A. KENDALL, Sr., sank quietly to rest, to wake not again upon earth, at 10:30 Wednesday night, at the homestead in this village. Ever since the death of her husband, in July, 1878, she has continued to fail in health, and the shock caused by the loss of her daughter, Mrs. S. SMITH, last summer, prepared the surviving relatives and friends to anticipate the sad end; but while it had been foreseen for months, it nevertheless came suddenly and without warning. She was up and about the house during the afternoon and evening, and was standing in the doorway between the sitting-room and kitchen, when her grand-daughter, Mrs. CHAPEL, noticed that she began to reel and ran to her assistance, being just in time to save her from falling to the floor. Mrs. CHAPEL supported her in her arms while her little daughter summoned Mr. and Mrs. W. B. DODGE, and when they arrived the failing woman was placed on a lounge and a physician sent for. Restoratives were administered, but without effect. Quietly she sank into a deep slumber, and an hour or two later she as quietly and peacefully passed away to join her loved ones in the realm of bliss on high. Mrs. KENDALL lacked but a little over one month of reaching her 80th birthday, having been born at Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, April 5, 1802. Her maiden name was Salina AVERILL, and she was one of seventeen children born to her parents. But two of the family survive her--one brother residing in Merrill, this state, and one living at Coburg, Canada. In 1827 she gave her hand in marriage to the late F. A. KENDALL, and with him came to Montello in 1851. She was the mother of ten children, but three of whom are now living--F. A. KENDALL of Berlin, A. F. KENDALL of Merrill, Wis., and Geo. KENDALL of Petersham, Massachusetts. Mrs. KENDALL's peaceful death was but typical and emblematic of her whole life. She was ever at peace with all the world. Of a kind heart and gentle ways, she was a model wife, loving mother and wise councilor to her children, and a neighbor who never failed to perform a good deed or afford accomodation where it was needed. In her long residence here she had numerous occasions to extend her sympathy or advice to sorrowing or troubled hearts, and many a tear will start unbidden to the eyes of those who have felt the wondrous power of her gentle touch and consoling speech, as they follow her remains to the tomb. Love to her memory; peace to her ashes. The funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock this (Friday) afternoon.
