Obituary: Marquette County, Wisconsin: John Henry NORTH ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, April 2008 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Montello Express [Montello, Marquette Co., WI], Saturday February 1, 1890, Page 1 Death of J. Henry NORTH There is probably no task more painful to perform than recording the departure of old and respected citizens from our midst. Yet as a matter of duty it often falls to our lot. Mr. NORTH had lived in Montello for the past 24 years and was one of the first pioneer settlers of the county having first settled in Crystal Lake in 1854. He was always a hard working, industrious and careful man, and by his frugality had saved up enough to keep him and his wife comfortably during their old age. He was a man who had many friends. John Henry NORTH was born in Grosskotten, Germany, January 13, 1816, and died in Montello, Wisconsin on January 21, 1890. He was married to Wilhelmina NITZ November 14, 1842. Emigrated to America in the spring of 1854, and settled in Crystal Lake, where he cleared up three farms. He moved to Shields where he lived four years, serving two terms as town assessor; then moved to Montello, July 6, 1866, where lived up to the time of his death. He leaves a widow and three sons, one in Montello, one at Neillsville, and one in Kansas to mourn his loss.
