Obituary: Marquette County, Wisconsin: Anthony QUANTIUS ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, April 2008 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From The Sun [Montello, Marquette Co., WI], July 13, 1883, Page 5 Death of Anthony QUANTIUS On the evening of July 10th, 1883, at his residence in this village, Anthony QUANTIUS, aged 84 years, 11 months and 23 days, departed this life. His death was the result of old age, hastened probably by the fall he received some two weeks since. Mr. QUANTIUS was born in Germany, and resided there until 1848 when he came to America, and the same year, on the 17th of December, was married to Miss Sophie MILLER, and settled in Wisconsin. Nine children were the fruit of this union, six of whom are living, and were present at the funeral, which was held at the Catholic church Thursday morning, Rev. John Larmer officiating. About 26 years ago Mr. QUANTIUS removed from his farm in the town of Packwaukee, to this village, and shortly after engaged in the mercantile business, which he carried on for some years in the same building in which he has sinc elived abd where he died. He retired from business a number of years ago, having accumulated considerable property, and old age and poor health unfitting him for labor. He was an honest, industrious man, and his familiar countenance will be missed by all, for he has been constantly in our village for so many years, and was the first Catholic citizen to settle in Montello. He leaves a wife, who at present is in quite poor health, and six grown-up children, all residents here except Mrs. M. MCLAUGHLIN, of Westfield, and Mrs. A. MCCULLOCH, of Kingston. He was confined to his bed and suffered a great deal for some time before his death, his wife and children giving him every attention possible.
