CHARLES HENRY TOWNSEND was born March 24, 1835 in Eastchester, Westchester County, New York, and died July 28, 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska (Buried at Forest Lawn). He married CECELIA ELIZA DOUGLAS October 20, 1859 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Notes for CHARLES HENRY TOWNSEND: Charles Henry Townsend was enlisted into the 29th Regiment of the Wisconsin Infantry on the 22nd day of September 1862, by Governor Salomon at Madison Wisconsin, for the term of three years, and was mustered into service into the military service of the United States on the 27th day of September 1862, by Major R.S. Smith at Madison Wisconsin. At the time of his enlistment , 2nd Lieutenant Townsend gave his residence as Christiana, Dane County, Wisconsin. Lt. Townsend was detailed as the Chief of the Ambulance Corps, 1st Brigade, 12th Division, 13th Army Corps in March 1863. He was an Aide de Camp to General Prentiss in Memphis Tennessee from April 2, 1863 to November 11, 1863 when he was relieved of duty. According to his Muster Rolls he was also on detached service as an Aide de Camp to Generals Hurlburt, Washburn and Dana. On May 13, 1865 he requested the order to be admitted to the Officers General Hospital for evaluation of protracted Chronic Disorder (Dysentery).
