His condition was not regarded serious until the Sunday morning preceding his death. Mr. Kruse was born in the city of Milwaukee, September 19, 1852. At an early age he came to Portland with parents, and has lived in that town ever since. He was united in marriage to Miss Louise Smith. Two sons were born to them; Roy C. and Milton H. Kruse. They, with the wife and mother survive. Mr. Kruse is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Wm Behlke, of Hubbleton and Mrs. J.F. Smith of Bloomer; by one brother, Wm. of Sun Prairie, and by two half brothers, John Kruse of Janesville, and Fred Kruse of Appleton. Mr. Kruse was a very hard-working and prosperous farmer. The funeral took place Thursday at the Methodist Episcopal Church in this village, Rev. Mr. Lange of Lowell, officiating. The burial was at the Oak Hill Cemetery. The bearers were Frank Gerbig, Ernest Kasten, Chris Hamlin, Carl Kluetzman, Fred Fentzlaff, and Wm. Lenz. The funeral was largely attended. Among those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kruse, Mrs. August Hein, Sun Prairie, Wis; Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Merkle, Walter Smith, John Boetcher, Henry Bastjain, Appleton, Wisconsin; John Kruse, Janesville, Wisconsin; J.F. Smith and Miss Eva Smith, Bloomer, Wisconsin; Mrs. Wm. Hein and Mrs. John Smith, Mason City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schack, Watertown, Wisconsin.
