F, 11th Regiment, Wisconsin Vol's Affidavit State of Iowa, County of Sioux ss; In the claim of Austin Carver Co. F, 11th Regiment, Wisconsin Vol's on this 11th day of February, A. D. 1890, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public, in and for the aforesaid county, duly authorized to administer oaths, Emery Cook aged 30 years, a resident of Hull in the County of Hull and A J Henry aged 40 years, a resident of Hull in the County of Sioux and state of Iowa whose Post Office address is Hull, well known to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declare in relation to aforesaid case as follows: I, Emery Cook, have been aquainted with Austin Carver for over five years have lived neighbor to him during the past five years and know that he is not able to perform manual labor to the extent of one fourth what an ordinary man could do have seen him when he could not perform manual labor on account of lung trouble. I, A J Henry, have lived neighbor to Austin Carver for five years and during that time he has not been able to perform manual labor one fourth of the time on account of lung trouble and not able to perform any heavy work at anytime on account of his Lung trouble. D. 1890. +++ State of Iowa County of Buchanan ss: Personally appeared Frank L Scribner and John Fay of Independence P. O., County of Buchanan, State of Iowa who, being duly sworn, upon his oath declares as follows: That they were neighbors of Austin Carver, late of Co. F, 11th Regt. Wisconsin Inft. From the year 1897 to the year 1871 and during that time they were well and intimately acquainted with the said Austin Carver and declare that on the year first above mentioned he cause under their observation suffering as follows: with a pain in his side. Which was very severe at times and he seemed to be suffering from general debility and a broken constitution.And that his condition during each year from the above date to the year 1871 continued and developed as follows: From 1867 to 1869 there was not much difference in his condition that we remember. In the month of February 1870 he was sick and unable to work two weeks. Spitting blood one week of the time and they further say that their knowledge of the facts is obtained fro the following sources, viz: intimate acquaintance and frequent observation and that the have no interest nor concern in this matter. O. address is Sheldon County of O'Brien and state of Iowa, who, being duly sworn, upon his oath declares as follows: That he is a regular Practicing Physician of 35 years' standing That he has attended Austin Carver late Pv't Co. F, 11th Wis. Vols. From 1871 to date as follows: Tenderness over the right side and cough upon performing hard labor in the region of diaphragm seems to be some adhesions or chronic inflammation of the Pleura.I have treated him with sedatives and ______ applications when disease assumed an acute form or became aggravated encouraged him to rest and the regular treatment for pleurisies. +++ THE STATE OF IOWA SIOUX COUNTY I, Olin G. Reiniger, Clerk of the District Court of said county and keeper of the Records and Files pertaining to said officeDo Hereby Certify that the annexed instrument is a true and correct copy of the Certificate of Marriage of Austin Carver and Kate Shatswell as the same appears of record in my office.In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and attached the seal of said District Court at my office in Orange City, in said county this 4th day of May A. D. 1918. +++ DECLARATION FOR INVALID ARMY PENSION Clerk of the Circuit Court within and for the County and State aforesaid, Austin Carver, aged 35 years and a resident of Sheldon, County of O'Brien, in the State of Iowa who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Austin Carver who enlisted in the service of the United States at Madison County of Dane and State of Wisconsin, on the 11th day of September 1861, as a private in Company F, commanded by captain R. E. Jackson, in the 11th Regiment of Wisc. Vols, in the War of 1861, veteran in same and honorably discharged at Mobile State of Ala, on the 4th day of Sept 1865, that while in the service aforesaid, and in the line of duty as a soldier on line of St. Louis and Iron Mountain R. R.'d in the State of Missouri, on the 2nd day of February, 1862 he was taken sick with measles and before recovery caught cold causing selrocersion of measles, which settled in his chest and side, causing pain in same and consumption cough, which continue and greatly incapacitate him for manual labor. Received hospital treatment as follows: Left at Hospital Jackson Arkansas June 1862 from there in Ambulance to and put on Hospital Boat D. A. JanuaryHe has not been in the military or naval, marine or civil service of the United States since the 4th day of Sept, 1865 since leaving the service he resided mostly at or near Iowa. His occupation has been farmer When enrolled he was a farmer and for the purpose of prosecuting his claim he hereby appoints P. H. Fitzgerald, of Indianapolis, Indiana, his attorney in fact, with full power of substitution and with authority to receive his Pension Certificate. His post office address is Sheldon, County of O'Brien State of Iowa Austin Carver +++ State of Wisconsin County of Sauk} ss: In the Claim of Austin Carver on this 15th day of March, 1880, personally appeared before me, a Clerk of Circuit Court in and for the County and State aforesaid, Jesse Mather and Wm Devine of Prairie Du Sac P.O., in the county of Sauk and State of Wisconsin, who being duly sworn according to law, on oath declare as follows: That they were late members of Company F, 11th Reg't Wisconsin and that said Austin Carver was a member of said organization, and who while in the said service and line of duty as a soldier, at or near on line of St. Louis and Iron Mt. R. R. State of Missouri, on or about the 2nd day of February 1862, he was taken sick with measles and before recovery caught cold causing retrocession of measles which settled in his chest and side causing pain in same and consumptive cough, the same continuing while under affiant's observation and they further say that their knowledge of the above facts is obtained from the following source, viz: and that they have no interest nor concern in this matter. C., September 28th, 1880 Sir:I have the honor to return herewith your request for a report of hospital treatment in Claim, No. 244329, with such information as is furnished by the records filed in this office, viz: that Austin Carver private Co. F, 11 Wis. Vols was admitted on Floating Hospital D. A. January at Helena, Arkansas July 17, 1862 with Pneumonia and transferred to Jefferson Barracks July 21, 1862. Army +++ DECLARATION FOR PENSION State of Texas, County of Donley, ss: On this 23rd day of May, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, personally appeared before me, a notary public within and for the county and state aforesaid, Austin Carver who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 72 years of age and a resident of Jericho, county of Donley, State of Texas; and that he is the identical person who was enrolled at Madison on the 27th day of September 1861 as a private in Company F 11 Wisconsin volunteers in the service of the United States, in the civil war, and was honorably discharged at Mobile, Ala, on the 4th day of Sept, 1865. That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5 feet 6 inches; complexion, fair; color of eyes, blue; color of hair, brown; that his occupation was farmer; that he was born January 30, 1841 at St. Lawrence Co., State of New York that he hereby appoints his true and lawful attorney to prosecute this claim. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: near Madison, Wis.; Hull, Iowa; Lebanon, Missouri; Lemore City, Okla; and then to Jericho, Donley Co., Texas. +++ Goodnight, Texas June 25, 1913 This is to certify that I have examined Mr. Austin Carver of company F. 11th Wisconsin Volunteers U. S. Army enlisted Sept 27, 1861, discharged Sept 4, 1865. Was born January 30, 1841, now drawing pension on certificate no. 175,850. I find him I consider totally disabled for manual labor owing to the condition of his lungs the beginning of which he says and I thing as sequela of measles contracted while in service.I have been acquainted with him and attend him in several attacks during the past 4 years.S. Reenlisted in Feb 1864 and mustered out at Mobile Ala Sept 1865. I was born the 30th of Jan 1841. My father's name was Nelson Carver and mother's name was Elizabeth Carver in 1850. My parents lived in Jefferson Co., Wis. P. O. Hebron in 1860 they lived in Monroe Co. Wis. P. O. Dorset. I also lived in Monroe Co., Wis. in 1870 the family records were destroyed in 1878, I have a sister two years younger and brother eight years younger than I, the rest of my brothers and sisters and parents are all dead I had three brothers in the service. Now friend Stephens if you can help me I'll appreciate it very much I remain as ever. Yours Austin Carver +++ Jericho, Texas May 10, 1916 To the Honorable Sect of the Interior Bureau of Pension I received a pension check for $75.00 but I should ove rec'd a check for $90.00 as I was born the 30th of Jan 1841. Making me 75 years old last Jan and served in the Union army from Sept 27 1861 to Sept 4 1865 and the act passed on May 11 1912 gave $25 per month at 70, but I was drawing a pention ove $15 on a previous act giving that amount to those of 70 years I made an affidavid of my age and the department dident make eny objection then but year ago they sent me a blak to fill out about my age and other questins I filled and swore to them I gave all information I could if they had of asked for more when I was 70. My brother six years older then I was alive but died two years ago I have a sister two years young than I living and a brother eight year younger that is all evadence in aditin to what I have furnished if you want that please send blanks and I'll send them and have them fill them out.I know I'm entitled to the $30.00 per month if you look you will see that every time I have been required to give my age I have given the same time of birth hopeing to heare soon I remain yours. Has this day been dropped from the roll because of death last of Aug 1917. State of Texas County of Donley ss: On this 23rd day of February 1918, personally appeared before me a notary public within and for the County and State aforesaid, Kate I. Carver who, being duly sworn by me according to law, declares that she 64 years of age and that she was born April 12th 1853. That she is the widow of Austin Carver who enlisted 1861 at Dane Co. Wisconsin under the name of Austin Carver as a Private, in Co. F., 11th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry and was honorably discharged. That she was married to said soldier March 12th 1873 under the name of Kate I. Shatswell, at Boyden, Sioux Co. Iowa by Fred S. Cottle, J. P.; that she had not been previously married; that he had been previously married once, was married to Laurancia Fay at Cottage Grove, Wisc. March 29th 1964 and she died at Independence Iowa Jan 22nd 1872 and that neither she nor said soldier (or Sailor) was ever married otherwise than as stated above.That said soldier (or sailor) died August 21st 1917, at Alanreed, Gray Co., Texas that she was not divorced from him; and that she has not remarried since his death.
