B. Dunlap residing in the County of Monroe and State of Wisconsin, who, being duly sworn according to law, on oath declared as follows: That they were late Privates of Co D 25th Wisc Vols and that Nelson Carver was also a Pv’t of said Co who while in lieu of duty at or near La Crosse, Wisc. about the 1st of January 1863 while on a march from Winona, Minn. to La Crosse, Wisc. By hard marching and clipping with heavy load, received a rupture of right side and they further say that their knowledge of the above facts is obtained from the following source, viz: Positive and personal recollection and that they have no interest nor concern in this matter. D. one thousand nine hundred and seven, personally appeared me, a Clerk of the Circuit court within and for the county and State aforesaid, Nelson Carver, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 62½ years of age, and a resident of Hot Springs, S. D. county of Fall River, State South Dakota; and that he is the identical person who was enrolled at Sparta, Wis. under the name of Nelson Carver, on the 18th day of August, 1862 as a private, in Company “D” 25th Wisconsin Vol. Inf. In the service of the United States in the Civil war, and was honorably discharged at Madison, Wis., on the 21st day of March 1863. That he also served by re-enlisting as a private in 1st Wis. Light Artillery on December 31, 1863 and serving therein until July 20, 865 at which date he was discharged at Milwaukee, Wis. That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. Carver, aged 62 years, a resident of Sheridan, county of Sheridan, State of Wyoming, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain pension under the provisions of the ACT OF CONGRESS APPROVED APRIL 19, 1908. That she is the widow of Nelson carver, who was enrolled under the name of Nelson Carver, at La Cross, Wisconsin, on the 1st day of December 1862, as a private in Co. “D” 25th Regt. Wisconsin Inf., and honorably discharged March 25th 1863, having served ninety days or more during the late civil war. That he also served from Dec. 31, 1863 to July 18, 1865, as private in 1st battery of Horse Artillery, Wisconsin Volunteers. That he was not in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That she was married under the name of Sarah E. Bellows to said soldier at Sioux Falls, S. Dakota, on the fifteenth day of September, 1887, by R. C. Hawkins, Judge of Probate; that there was no legal barrier to the marriage: that she had been previously married: that the soldier had been previously married, The applicant was divorced from Charles C. Bellows in June 1887, Nelson Carver was first married on July 4th 1863 to Margaret Shearer she died about July 6th, 1867, his second marriage was to Martha Wilcox on November 28th, 1867 and she died on July 4th, 1886 and that neither she nor said soldier married otherwise than as stated above. I further say that Mrs. Martha Carver, the second wife of Nelson Carver, died July 4 A. Carver, who, being duly sworn by me according to law, declares that she is 69 years of age and that she was born March 9, 1853, at Bayonne, New Jersey. That she is the widow of Nelson Carver, who enlisted December 31, 1863, at LaCrosse, Wisconsin, under the name of Nelson Carver, as a Private, in Captain Daniel Webster’s Company 1st Battery of Horse Artillery Wisconsin Volunteers (Co D 25th Regt Wisconsin Infantry and was honorably discharged July 18, 1865, having served ninety days or more, or was discharged for or died in service of a disability incurred in the service and in the line of duty, during the Civil War. That she was married to said soldier September 15, 1887, under the name of Sarah E. Bellows at Sioux Falls, South Dakota by R. C. Hawkins, Judge of Probate; that she had --- been previously married; that he had --- been previously married Applicant was married Dec 2, 1870 to Chas C. Bellows at Vermillion, S. D. and I secured a divorce from him. My said soldier husband was married twice previous to my marriage to him and both of said wives died previous to his marriage to the applicant. Applicant refers to her former application and the evidence presented in support thereof and that neither she nor said soldier was ever married otherwise than as stated above. Applicant was married to Thomas E. H. Lewis on September 5, 1919 and was granted a divorce from him on January 28, 1922, certified copy of said decree of divorce is filed herewith and respectfully referred to Thos. E. H. Lewis. That said soldier died October 4, 1915, at Buffalo, Wyoming; that she was not divorced from him; and that she has --- remarried since his death. That the following are the only children of the soldier under sixteen years of age, who are now living, namely: None under 16 years of age That she has --- heretofore applied for pension, the number of her former claim being Pension Certificate No 806,568 W.O. 1055012 that said soldier was a pensioner, the number of his pension certificate being 158,194.
