His wife Mary M. (Bowe) Markham was born on May 8, 1829 in Kilkenny County, Ireland. Her parents are unknown to me at this time. In 1850 Benjamin Ovitt Markham, age 23, lived in Great Valley, Cattaraugus, New York with his parents: William Markham, age 57, and Rachel Markham, age 53, and his siblings: Niles, age 20; Alonzo, age 17; Mary E., age 26; Eugene, age 12; and Esther, age 8, at the time of the 1850 US Census. Benjamin was a Farmer. Benjamin Ovitt Markham and Mary M. (Bowe) Markham were married on October 17, 1854 in Great Valley, Cattaraugus, New York. In 1860 Benjamin O. Markham, age 32, lived in Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York with his wife Mary Markham, age 32, and their children: William, age 6; Ellen, age 4; Juliette (Julia), age 2; and Mary Jane, age 6 months, at the time of the 1860 US Census. Benjamin Ovid (Ovitt) Markham registered for the US Civil War Draft in June 1863 for the 31st Congressional District, Napoli, Little Valley, Cattaragus, New York. He was living in Little Valley at the time and was a Farmer. In 1870 Benjamin O. Markham, age 42, and his wife Mary Markham, 40, lived in Sparta, Monroe, Wisconsin with their children: William, age 16; Ellen, age 14; Julia, 12; Mary J., age 10; Harriet, age 8; and Jessie, age 6, at the time of the 1870 US Census. Benjamin was a Farmer and Mary was Keeping House. In 1880 B.O. Markham, age 52, and his wife Mary Markham, age 52, lived in New Oregon, Howard, Iowa with their children: William, age 26; Allen (Ellen), age 24; Julia, age 22; Jenney (Mary Jane), age 20; Kattey (Hattie), age 18; and Jesse (Jessie), age 15, at the time of the 1880 US Census. Benjamin was a Farmer and Mary was Keeping House. His son William was a Farmer. His daughters Julia, Jennie and Hattie were Housekeepers. Jessie was still attending school. In 1885 B.O. Markham, age 55, and his wife Mary M. Markham, age 55, lived in Vernon Springs, Howard, Iowa with their children: Harriet S., age 23 and Jessie S., age 22, at the time of the 1885 Iowa State Census. Benjamin was a Farmer. Mary M. (Bowe) Markham died on May 6, 1893 in Cresco, Howard, Iowa. In 1895 B.O. Markham, age 65, lived in Vernon Springs, Howard County, Iowa. In 1900 Benjamen Markham, age 71 and widowed, lived in Vernon Spring, Howard, Iowa with his children: Hattie S., age 36, and Jessie S., age 34, at the time of the 1900 US Census. Benjamin was a Farmer. Hattie was a Housekeeper and Jessie was a Farm Laborer, probably helping her aged father with the farm. In 1910 Benjiman Markham, age 81 and widowed, lived in Vernon Springs with his daughters: Hattie S., age 46, and Jessie S., age 44, at the time of the 1910 US Census. Benjamin, who owned his farm, was a Farmer and Employer doing Truck Farming. His daughters: Hattie and Jessie were Keeping House at home. Benjamin Ovitt Markham was an English speaking, white, male, who could read and write. Benjamin Ovitt Markham died on October 11, 1914 in Cresco, Howard County, Iowa, USA.
