He was a young man well known in this community, having lived on the Ridge with his uncles, the Tormey brothers, from infancy. About four years ago he was married to the eldest daughter of Daniel O'Leary, and to them one child was born. For a while he was engaged in farming, living on the Taylor farm. He then went to Waverly, Minnesota, and engages in the dray business, but his health failing he sold out his interests there and returned to the Ridge. He employed the best medical aid, but could receive no benefit and the disease continued unabated until he passed to rest last Saturday, leaving a wife and one child. Tomah Monitor, 4 March 1896 James Cummings died at his home south of this city on Sunday morning March 1st, of diabetes. He a was well-known and respected young man, and his death is mourned by a large circle of friends in the vicinity. The funeral was held Tuesday from the Catholic church, and was largely attended.
