Biography:
HUDD, Thomas Richard, a Representative from Wisconsin; born in Buffalo, N.Y., October 2, 1835; moved with his
mother to Chicago, Ill., in 1842 and to Appleton, Wis., in 1853; attended the common schools and Lawrence
University, Appleton, Wis.; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1856 and commenced practice in Appleton, Wis.;
district attorney of Outagamie County in 1856 and 1857; served in the State senate in 1862, 1863, 1876-1879, 1882,
1883, and 1885; moved to Green Bay in 1868 and continued the practice of law; member of the State assembly in
1868 and 1875; city attorney of Green Bay in 1873 and 1874; delegate to the Democratic National Convention at
Cincinnati in 1880; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of
Joseph Rankin; reelected to the Fiftieth Congress and served from March 8, 1886, to March 3, 1889; was not a
candidate for renomination in 1888; resumed the practice of law; died in Green Bay, Wis., on June 22, 1896;
interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
