F. Fuller John Faville. THE eighth pastor, Rev. John Faville, began his work in January, 1886, and continued in it till December, 1898, making it the longest pastorate in the history of the church. Mr. Faville came from the Methodist Episcopal church at Fond du Lac, Wis. John Faville was born in Milford, Jefferson county, Wis., July 7th, 1847, and spent his boyhood days on a farm. His preparation for college was made partly at Lake Mills, Wis., and the senior year in the preparatory department of Lawrence university. Entering the college department in 1867, he graduated in 1871. After teaching a year each at Milford, and at Two Rivers, Wis., he entered the theological department of Boston university, graduating in 1876. The same year he became connected with the Wisconsin Methodist Episcopal Conference, and filled pastorates of three years each at Fox Lake, Waupun, and Fond du Lac. Mr. Faville married Miss Louise Gleason Thayer, at her home in North Easton, Mass., Oct. 26th, 1876. He received from his alma mater at its semi-centennial celebration in 1897, the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity, and the same year from the Boston university the meritorious degree of Doctor of Philosophy. At the end of a pastorate of thirteen years, Mr. Faville resigned and accepted a call to the First Congregational church of Peoria, Ill., entering upon his work there Jan. 1st, 1899. During his thirteen years' service there were admitted to the church 595 members, no communion season passing without additions to the membership. The thorough work of former pastors in establishing broad and firm foundations had made possible the rapid advancement in church work that has characterized this pastorate, Quick to see and comprehend the advantages, Mr. Faville was alert in siezing every opportunity to enhance the interests pertaining to the welfare of the church. Some marked changes in the administration of its affairs were made, which are worthy of note; among which stands most prominent the "enrichment of the evening service," which will be given a more extended notice under the heading, "The Sunday Evening Club."
