The Sunday school was organized in 1849. The church was organized in 1850. The first church building was dedicated in 1854. The year 1854 saw the church membership more than doubled. 1862, 1865, and 1867 witnessed large accessions to the membership In 1870 the twentieth anniversary sermon was given by the lamented Dickinson. In 1875 the Quarter Centennial was celebrated, and papers were prepared by Mrs. Reeder Smith, on the 'Early Church History;" Dr. J. T. Reeve, on "The Missionary Spirit of the Church;" Deacon J. Tibbits, on "Revivals;" Capt. N. M. Edwards, on 'The Church and the Civil War;" Mrs. S. R. Page, on "Woman's Work;" W. H. Steele, on "The Sunday School;" J. F. Jerrard, "Biographical Sketches;" James Gilmore, "Reminiscences," and J. F. Fuller, on the "Later Church History." In July, 1888, the cornerstone of the present church edifice was laid. In September, 1888 a mission chapel, located in the Fifth ward, was dedicated with appropriate services. In 1889 the present church edifice was completed and dedicated.
