There were two families of the Evangelical faith residing in New London. Rev. Ernest Schulz was the first pastor of this mission and during his pastorate 69 new members joined. W.H. Sibley and John Hoxie formed a partnership in the merchantile business which carried a large stock and was a thriving business until 1865, when Mr. Hoxie bought out his partner and then sold his business to buy pine lands. The store was located across the street from where the Schultz Bros. dime store is presently located. Jan. 26, snow in the woods was three feet deep. April 5th, North Star Lodge number 104, I.O.O.F. was organized in New London by T.R. Hudd, D.D.G.M. April 6th, from Appleton Crescent: "Through mistake, we have not mentioned the fact that a daily stage is run from New London to this place." HOME FRONT - AFTER BOMBARDMENT OF FORT SUMTER On Sept. 8, Zion Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod), south Caledonia, was dedicated and Rev. John N. Beyer was installed as pastor by Rev. F. Lochner of Milwaukee. St. John's of New London became a new member of the south Caledonia parish.
