David Samuelsen EMAIL: DATE: Jan 08, 1999 SURNAMES: FRIEZE Shiocton News; Shiocton, WI; 3 Aug 1900 Drowned in Laird's Lake Johnie Frieze a young lad about fifteen years old living in the town of Black Creek was drowned in Laird's lake Sunday afternoon about four o'clock. It seems that there was a crowd of boys and young men at the lake for the purpose of bathing. The Frieze boy went out in a boat with a companion, and after a short decided that they would go in bathing also. Johnnie could not swim but his companion could, and when he jumped from the boat and swam it looked so easy he thought would do the same thng. He went into the water and shortly sank, when he came up his companion caught him and attempted to save him but he dragged him down also and it was with difficulty that freed himself from the grasp of the drowning young man. Nothing more could be done for him. There was no one near to grasp him as he went down for the last time. A search was made for the body which was found Monday about 10 o'clock.
