"Lee" Connors Age 92, of the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein, formerly of Chilton, died on Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the nursing home. She was born on February 2, 1908, in Chilton, daughter of the late Henry and Theresa (Diedrich) Steffes. She married Thomas Connors on February 14, 1928, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton; he preceded her in death on July 31, 1975. Lee worked as a cashier for the Chilton Shopping Center for several years, and she and Tom were custodians for the Chilton City Hall for several years, and she served as organist for the Germania Club in Chilton. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chilton, the Christian Mothers, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the Chilton Senior Citizens. Lee enjoyed crafts, photography, board games, quilting, music, playing the organ, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Dean (Alice) Connors, Chilton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Mills; a son, Patrick Connors; a sister, Mildred Corbett, and a brother, Alvin Steffes. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2000, at St. Augustine Church, with the Reverend Gary New, S.D.S., officiating. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and again on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Hill N3591 Sunset Lane, New London Age 7, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 3, 2000, following a lingering illness since August. She was born on March 24, 1992, in Appleton. As a second grade student, she attended Lincoln School in New London. She is survived by her parents, Andrew Hill and Barbara (Dan) Schultz; a sister, Angela, New London; a half brother, Mark (Melina) Hill, New London; three half sisters, Tracy (Jon) Shuler, Waynesville, North Carolina; Mary (Jim) Hoffman, Chicago, Illinois; and Susan (Ned) Hooper, also of Waynesville, North Carolina; maternal grandparents, Robert (Donna) Noffke, Ogdensburg; Donald (Donna) Schulz, Shawano. She was preceded in death by a half brother, Jeffrey Hill. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New London with the Reverend William Favorite officiating. Interment will be at the Floral Hill Cemetery in New London. Verna G. Schroeder 703 Nassau St., New London Age 83, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2000 at the New London Family Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and pending at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London. Herbert A. Wetzel Appleton Age 72, died at his home Thursday afternoon, March 2, 2000. Herb was born September 23, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Herbert A. and Ellen (Driscoll) Wetzel Sr. He married Augusta Schaly on March 6, 1964. She preceded him in death in December 1999. Herb made a career of the military, first in the U.S. Navy, and then in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Meritorious Service Award, retiring in 1976. He served in the Vietnam War in 1967 and again in 1970, where he was wounded and received two purple hearts. Survivors include three brothers, Eugene (Patricia) Wetzel, Marion; Donald (Joan) Wetzel, Appleton; Raymond (Liz) Wetzel, Canton, Ohio; two sisters, Mary (Elmer) Piotraschke, Clintonville; Florence (James) Van Nuland, San Jose, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy and Gloria Wetzel. There will be a private memorial service including military honors for Herbert at a later date. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Pat and Gene Wetzel and their son, John, for caring for Herb, and for Jim Quick and all the Home Health staff who took great care of Herb.
