Bennetts; daughter, Elaine Loehning; son, Raymond S. Bennetts. Survived by a son, William H. Bennetts, daughter-in-law, Vera Coulthurst, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Olympia was a resident of Menasha for 70 plus years. Funeral services for Olympia will be Saturday, March 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Menasha with Father Roy Geenen officiating. Burial will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Friends may call at the Laemmrich Community Funeral Home in Menasha on Friday (tonight) from 4-8 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Opal Cross Appleton Age 85, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, and Peachtree City, Georgia, died Monday, March 13, 2000 at the Colony Oaks Care Center, Appleton. The funeral service for Opal will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2000 at the Savanna Bible Church. Pastor Brent Hall will be officiating. Friends may call at the visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna is in charge of arrangements. Opal was born on Friday, August 28, 1914, in Savanna, Illinois, to Howard and Jessie (Hitchcock) Groharing. She married Marion Delmar Cross on January 1, 1938, in Prophetstown, Illinois. Her mother's brother, Rev. Earl Edwards, married them. Marion died on May 20, 1990. Opal was a homemaker and had worked at the Hanover Woolen Mill many years ago. She was a former member of the Savanna Bible Church. She and her husband were active members in the Peachtree City Christian Church and the Peachtree City Pioneers. She enjoyed embroidery, taking long walks in the woods, traveling, cooking, baking, and going out to dinner. Most important to Opal was the welfare of her family and spending time with them. Opal is survived by a daughter, Darlene Johnson, Naples, Florida; a son, Dell (Carol) Cross, Appleton; five grandchildren: Gwynne (Jim) Law, Gonzalas, Louisiana; Matt (Julie) Johnson, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Todd (Pam) Cross, Mt. Carroll, Illinois; Shelly (Steven) Price, Frederick, Maryland; Kyle Cross, Appleton; and five great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, six sisters, and three brothers preceded her in death. Nelson J. Lind Black Creek Formerly of Neenah, age 39, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at Manorcare Health Services, Appleton following a three year illness. He was born May 10, 1960 in Neenah, son of Norman and Roberta (Phillips) Lind. Nelson was a 1979 graduate of Neenah High School and was employed at Northern Technical Services, Green Bay before his illness. He is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law: Christopher (Cindy) Lind, Peter (Cindy) Lind, all of Neenah; Matthew (Elizabeth) Lind, Hartford; four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Jennifer (Steve) Siebers, Darboy; Orelle (Paul) McNamara, Odessa, Florida; Julianne Lind, Neenah; Patricia (Wally) Randolph, Flintville, Wisconsin and Nelson's special friend, Laurie Rausch. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday March 18, 2000 at Saint Gabriel Church, Neenah with Rev. Richard Allen officiating. Interment will be in Saint Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Richter "Rudy" Appleton Age 78, died Thursday, March 16, 2000 at Colony Oaks Care Center. Rudolph was born September 20, 1921 in Oshkosh to the late Fred and Elizabeth (Ehlenberger) Richter. Rudy graduated from Oshkosh High school on June 13, 1940. He joined the Army Air Force on November 1, 1940. Rudy was sent to Hawaii, and was stationed at Hickham Field on December 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked. He was honorably discharged September 7, 1945, after faithfully serving his country throughout the war. Rudy married Jean Feavel on April 7, 1943 while on a short leave of absence. After the war, he worked at the Institute of Paper Chemistry for a few years before going back to school. Rudy attended Stout University, receiving a BS degree July 27, 1951, and a Masters Degree August 9, 1962. Rudy taught school in Watertown, Wautoma and the Green Bay Reformatory before coming to Appleton. He taught at James Madison Jr. high School until his retirement in 1983. Rudy was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Neenah; Order of the Masonic Fraternity, Eastern Star; EAA where he worked as as volunteer; and Epsilon Pi Tau, International Honorary Professional Fraternity in Industrial Arts and Industrial Vocational Education. Rudy is survived by his wife, Jean; a daughter, Jeanne Rae Roller (Rod); two sons: Rodney D. Richter; and Gregory T. Richter (Mary); eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters: Marian Sage (Doug); and Margaret Krentz, Oshkosh; a brother, George Richter, Carmichael, California; and nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom will miss him very much. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Hank Richter; brother-in-law, Jerry Krentz; sister-in-law, Ruth Richter. Rudy loved his family, dogs, fishing, camping, reading and taking pictures. He also loved teaching. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. in the Star of Hope Chapel at HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK, 3131 North Richmond Street, with Reverend Steve Foster officiating. Heritage Woods Drive Appleton, WI 54915 Raymond died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 peacefully at home after a seven year battle with bone cancer. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 22, 1922 to the late John Alexander and Lulu Saxton Sale. On September 18, 1947 he married the former Louise Murwin in Jacksonville. He lived in Jacksonville until 1997 when he and Louise moved to Douglasville, Georgia and most recently to Appleton. Raymond was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Raymond worked as an architect for various Jacksonville firms. He actively worked on Baptist Memorial Hospital and the Wolfson Memorial Children's Hospital. He was also responsible for some of the design work at Cape Canaveral, now the Kennedy Space Center and Disneyworld in Orlando. At the time of his death, Raymond was living at The Heritage in Appleton. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Louise; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Roger Parry, Fernandina Beach, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Pat Voss, Appleton; five grandchildren: Chris Parry, Athens, Georgia; Suzanne and Jason Parry, Jacksonville, Florida; Phillip and Ryan Voss, Appleton; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rosa Sale, Jacksonville, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Stanley Sale and Jean Sale Cofer. Stanton (Alexander Staszewski) Manitowoc, Wisconsin Age 83, formerly of New London, passed away at Shady Lane Nursing Home in Manitowoc on Thursday, March 16, 2000 due to complications from lung cancer. Alex was born in South Bend, Indiana on June 13, 1916, the son of Joseph and Mary Ann (Gromadzinski) Staszewski. He grew up in Racine and was a stand out athlete at St. Catherine's High School receiving several scholarship offers to play Division I college football. On April 20, 1940 he was united in marriage with Bette (Elizabeth) Helen Jacoby in Racine. Alex served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Radar Man aboard the Destroyer USS Owen where he saw 22 straight months of action in the South Pacific Theater. He operated Stanton's Club tavern for many years and was president of the Racine Tavern League. Alex was also a skilled trades machinist for the J.I. Case Company, retiring in 1979 to his Wolf River home in New London. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas (Judy) Stanton, Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Paul, Matthew, Ann, and Michael. Also surviving is his sister, Victoria Smolarek, Racine; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Bette, in 1989; a sister, Valerie Kruszka; four brothers: Andrew, Stanley, John, and Walter. Alex was a personable man and great story teller who made friends wherever he went. He was a self taught musician who could play nearly any instrument but was known best for his squeeze box and harmonica talents. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Margaret "Peggy" Wagner N7469 Spoehr Rd., Black Creek Age 51, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning at Appleton Medical Center. She was born May 6, 1948 in New London, daughter of Mary Lou (Main) Dorn and the late Alex "Butch" Hooyman. On December 28, 1967 she was united in marriage to James Wagner in Black Creek. Peggy graduated from Outagamie Teachers College and UW-Oshkosh. She taught for 10 years at St. Nicholas, Freedom, and several years at St. John's, Seymour. She also taught at Shiocton and was a substitute teacher for many years. In 1968 she started a small produce business that later grew into Wagner's Market at the intersection of Hwys. 54 and 47 in Black Creek. Peggy was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton. She was a beautiful, hard-working, fun-loving person who had the biggest heart in the world and was a friend to all. She was a wife, mother, daughter, grammy, sister, and aunt. Her memory will be cherished forever.
