Obituaries from The Post Crescent, Appleton Wisconsin Tuesday 04 April 2000 John Gall 333 Misty Lane, Appleton Age 89, died on Sunday, April 2, 2000, at the Outagamie County Health Center. He was born on October 24, 1910, in Gypsurn, Ohio, the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Ferene) Gall. On August 14, 1938, he wed Eloise Wood in Mt. Vernon. John later enlisted in the U.S. Navy holding rank of Lieutenant from February 27, 1943, until his honorable discharge on November 24, 1945. He remained in the Naval Reserves until 1951. John made a career at AAL working as a controller and retired in 1975. He was a member of the Appleton American Legion Post 38, the Appleton Noon Lions Club, the Riverview Country Club and a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church. John is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Wesley) Fietzer, Appleton; a son, John T. Gall, West Allis; four grandchildren, Abbi and Jon Fietzer, Appleton; Emily and Melissa Gall, West Allis. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Eloise, in 1997; a brother, Andrew, and a daughter-in-law, Christine Dixon. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2000, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 610 E. Glendale Avenue, Appleton, with the Reverend Daniel Thews officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Superior St. Appleton 739-1231 Richard Gebert Phoenix, Arizona Age 73, passed away Friday, March 31, 2000. Richard was born in Oshkosh on November 11, 1926. He lived in Appleton until 1957 when he moved to Arizona. Richard was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1433 and American Legion Post 29. Mr. Gebert is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, David (Meg), Joseph, Roger (Debbie), and his daughter, Diane. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew, Kevin, Gloria, Jennifer, Joey, Danielle, and Luke. Richard also leaves behind his sisters, Ruth Ann (Don) Holland and Donna (Jerry) Hildebrandt. Also surviving are his in-laws, Gerry (Peter) Demerath, Yvonne Locy, Gregory (Phyllis) Jansen, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Gebert was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Pearl; his father-in-law, Arthur Jansen; mother-in-law, Evangeline Jansen, and his brother-in-law, John Locy. Hermsen Sebring, Florida Age 72, formerly of Little Chute, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2000. Dolores was born in Combined Locks. She was a member of the Golf Hammock Golf Association, Golf Hammock Women's Club in Sebring, Fox Valley Golf Club in Kaukauna, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Hermsen, Sebring; a son, David Hermsen, Louisville, Kentucky; a daughter, Karen Hermsen Pitchers, Sebring; a brother, James Gossens, Clintonville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, John P. Luebke 125 Fifth Street Neenah Age 65, died unexpectedly after a battle with cancer on April 2, 2000, at Vallhaven Care Center. She was born March 18, 1935, in Appleton, daughter of the late William and Ella (Nickasch) Burns. Joan graduated from Menasha High School. She worked for Social Services in Milwaukee County for 13 years and then for Winnebago County for 12 years before retiring in April of 1992. Joan then worked for the Neenah School District until 1999. She enjoyed helping others and she loved birds and dogs. Joan enjoyed her summers camping in Door County. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Survivors include a special friend of 14 years, Alan Gruentzel, Neenah; two sisters, Connie (Al) Griesbach, Appleton; Kathy (Harold) Hedberg, Sugarland, Texas; two brothers, the Reverend Roger (Diane) Burns, Florida; William (Jan) Burns, Green Bay; nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Violet Voltz. She was born May 7, 1899, in the Town of Nekimi, the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Caroline (Kaerwer) Nachtrab. Gerty married Ruben Matulle on May 12, 1926, in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1993. They celebrated 67 years of marriage. Mrs. Matulle was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ. Gerty is survived by a son, Vernon (Janice) Matulle, Oshkosh, a daughter, Virginia (George) Mottl, Neenah; four grandchildren, Sandy (Bob) Hankel, Racine; Terry (Kathy) Matulle, Milton; Bruce (Linda) Mottl, Neenah; Michele (Brian) Plach, Neenah. Nine great-grandchildren, Erich Wolff, Barry and Brian Hankel, Matthew and Corey Matulle, Mindy and Terra Mottl and May and Andrew Plach. Owen Menasha On Sunday, April 2, 2000, the Lord chose to take our mother, wife, grandmother and friend after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Menasha, graduated from Menasha High School, was employed by Kimberly-Clark and was an active member of St. John Parish in Menasha. She loved life and always put her family and friends before herself. Over the years, she unselfishly volunteered as a religious education teacher, a Girl Scout leader, a camp counselor, or whatever her children were involved with at the time. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 38 years, Tom, Menasha; her five children, Sharon (Michael) McKilligin, Edgerton, Wisconsin; Wendy (Philip) Paul, Racine; Anthony Owen, Greendale, Wisconsin; Kelly (Alan) Birschbach, Kenosha; Nikia Owen, Milwaukee; her sister, Dorothy Kosoloski, Neenah; her six grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born November 18, 1926, in Sadorus, Illinois, daughter of the late Bernhard and Esther (Holl) Goers. She graduated from Valparaiso University in 1947. She married Kenneth Pierce September 1, 1956 in Dolton, Illinois, sharing 47 years together. Connie was employed by radio stations WHBY and WYNE for many years and retired in 1986. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Mary Circle Bible Group. She served as a volunteer for the Bethesda Thrift Shop. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Carol Pierce, Appleton; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Nancy Pierce, Poynette; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Kay Goers, Greenville, South Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Tony Pierce, Manitowoc; three grandchildren, Lauren Pierce, Kayla Pierce, and Jennifer Pierce.
