She was born and raised in Appleton and moved to North Idaho in 1997 to pursue baking her famous Kriss' Kringle (an elegant pastry) with her dear friend, Jim Wilger. She liked to ski, enjoyed outdoors, hiking and walking. She was very involved in her daughter's life which she considered her greatest accomplishment. She was born August 22, 1947 to Emery H. and Mary Krueger in Appleton. Catherine later married Michael on August 19, 1967. She worked at Bachman, Cummings, McKenzie, McIntyre, Wison Sc and Pre Disesor Firms as a Probate and Income Tax legal assistant for many years. He preceded her in death February 15, 1985. Following their marriage she and her husband farmed in the Town of Union. Dorothy had worked as a waitress and at the Hortonville Toy Factory. She was an active member of the Manawa United Methodist Church. Her hobbies were caring for her rose garden, cooking, feeding the birds and traveling. She is survived by two sons: Gary (Jo Anne), Bear Creek; Robert, Post Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren: Clint, Tim, and Jason; two brothers: Arnold (Nellie) Starcheska, and Gene (Beaulah) Starcheska, both of Manawa; two sisters-in-law: Pauline Hennig, Shawano; and Ellen Hennig, Bowler; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Maple St., Appleton Age 77, passed away Wednesday evening, April 5, 2000 at Encore Senior Villa, in Appleton. Donald was born October 5, 1922, to the late Harold and Florence (Johnson) Sandell in Ironwood, Michigan. He served in the United States Army from 1942-1946 and earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal. After World War II ended, he attended Macalester College and the University of Minnesota. Donald married Beverly (Claude) Sandell on February 13, 1954. He was employed by the St. Paul YMCA from 1959 until his retirement in 1986. She married Ernest Schimmelpfennig on August 2, 1923 in Menominee, Michigan and they shared 48 years of marriage together before his death on November 4, 1971. Mabel worked at Fox River Knitting in Appleton for a short-time before her marriage. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Appleton. William preceded her in death on June 14, 1998. Gertrude and her husband owned and operated the Curve Inn Tavern in Oshkosh for 13 years. Halbach on June 2, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1997. Mildred was a former member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Appleton. Mr. Robert Henry "Rob" Laber Redgranite Age 42, died Monday evening, April 3, 2000, as the result of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 21 just east of the Waushara-Winnebago County line in the Town of Rushford. Rob was born December 5, 1957, in Florida, the son of William and Helen Deegan Laber Sr. Following his graduation from Seminole High School in Seminole, Florida, he worked for his family's business, Pasadena Marine in St. Petersburg, Florida. He also owned and operated the Trains, Trains, Trains Hobby Shop in Largo, Florida. He married Debi Davidson on June 25, 1983, in Largo, Florida. Rob was employed by Sun Coast Air Systems in Clearwater, Florida, following his marriage. He also attended the Pinellas County Vocational Technical School in Florida to further his electrical education. The Labers moved to Redgranite from Largo, Florida, in 1988. Rob worked for Page Electric in Berlin from 1988 to 1995. He joined Cumings Electric of Neenah in March of 1995. Rob was proud to have earned his Master Electrician's license this past December. He was devoted to his family and helping others with his many talents. His leisure time was spent with his wife and two sons, camping, attending the boys' sporting and musical events and taking family vacations. He enjoyed fishing with his dad and his sons. Rob was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite, a past member of the Redgranite Lions Club and had been an assistant Cub Scout leader. He loved the world of books and had a keen interest in ancient civilizations. He had a lifelong fascination with aviation and experimental aircraft design, becoming a charter member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He worked for Knapstein Brewery, Hatten Lumber Company and was on WPA as a carpenter helper in building Hatten Park. He retired from Simmons Juvenile Products after 38 years as a dry kiln operator. He enjoyed fishing at his Wolf River cottage and hunting, trapping and gardening on his land in the Town of Lebanon. What he found in nature, he preserved and enhanced its beauty with his artistic talents. Potter Jr. Outagamie County Health Center Age 75, died Tuesday evening, April 4, 2000, due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born June 5, 1924, to the late Thomas J. and Selma (Ganzen) Potter Sr. in Appleton, where he had been a resident all of his life. Tom attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and had been employed by Tuttle Press and Marathon Corporation. Following this he was employed as a cab driver for Fox Valley Cab Company for 20 years. Tom played with the Appleton City Band for many years. Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and George Buss, Appleton; three nieces, Karen (Michael) Stabile; Mary (Bill) Derricks; Jane (Dan) Sturn; three nephews, Rick Buss; Kevin (Erin) Buss; Robert (Linda) Wiegand; and all their children. He married Marian J. Henseler in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on August 24, 1943. She preceded him in death December 4, 1987. He was married to Enid (Stelzner) Keller January 7, 1989, in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death June 21, 1999. Henry is survived by a son, Terry Raettig (Kathy), Olympia, Washington; a daughter, Linda Klein (Chris), Waupaca, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Erik Raettig, Madison, Wisconsin; Karla Raettig, Seattle, Washington; Heidi and Heather Klein, Waupaca, Wisconsin; a sister, Elaine Hoffmann, Oshkosh; three nephews and two nieces. He also leaves behind a beloved and compassionate friend, Betty Angell. Henry graduated from Oshkosh High School in January of his senior year and immediately enlisted during World War II. He served with the 424th Night Fighter Squadron in the Army Air Corps and Forces from 1942 until 1944 where he taught flying and flight school to cadets. He flew the P-61 "Black Widow" known for its speed and fire power. Hank was stationed in Georgia, Florida, St. Louis, Missouri, and Fresno, California. He served in the Air Force Reserve with the rank of First Lieutenant until 1955. His love of flying continued into his civilian life. He was a charter member of the Oshkosh Chapter of Quiet Birdmen, World War II Night Fighter Association, and the Smithsonian Air and Space Association. He was also a member of Silver Wings Fraternity, Air Force Association, EAA, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and AARP. He enjoyed owning his own Cessna, and flew often. He often ferried private aircraft around the country. He worked for 34 years for Marquart Millwork Company in Oshkosh until his retirement in 1986. In his spare time, he loved to travel, especially to Germany and Austria, where he leaves many friends. Henry also loved nature, birds, and was an avid hunter and fisherman earlier in his life. He raised and loved golden retrievers known for their superb obedience. He enjoyed many years of living in the country, gardening, apple growing, and taking care of his home and land, and became an expert bread baker over the years. He was a good man, honest and moral, and he loved his family. "Our Dad always felt that he had lived a wonderful life and he had done everything that he ever wanted to do. Steidl "Jack" Menasha Age 62, passed away at his home with his family at his side Tuesday, April 4, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack was born June 18, 1937, son of the late Edward and Helen (Hopfensperger) Steidl in Kaukauna. He graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1955 and attended Lawrence University. Jack was united in marriage to Carol Schaumann on August 16, 1958. He worked at Wisconsin Tissue Mills for 38 years before retiring two years ago. He was a Head Millwright, Instrument Man, Union President of Local 1279, Maintenance Supervisor at Plant 1 and a facilitator. He took great pride in the Make a Wish Foundation's "paper chase" for many years. He was well liked by his co-workers because of his straight forwardness, honesty, and great sense of humor. He loved working in his beautiful gardens around his home and working in his shop with woodworking projects where he made things for people he cared about. Jack was also a very good fisherman and good cook. He never shied away from work, whether it was his own, a neighbor, or a family member. He loved getting involved in big projects at work, home or one of his children's homes. He was always there for anyone who needed him. He was a Packer Fan. Jack was always attracted to any fire that might be burning along the lakeshore, and always told many good stories by the campfire with a beer. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, uncle and husband, who cherished his family. He was also known to be seen sitting in front of a good paying slot machine with his wife.
