Obituaries from The Post Crescent, Appleton Wisconsin Thursday 20 April 2000 Joy (Coon) Brouillard (Mrs. Bernard) Appleton Age 82, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Appleton Medical Center. Joy was born on September 16, 1917, in Appleton to the late Truman and Abbie (Willard) Coon. She was a lifelong resident of the Fox River Valley area. In 1962 she was united in marriage to Bernard Brouillard; they shared six years together before his death in 1968. Joy was employed by Appleton Papers, at the Locks Mill, retiring in 1979 after 43 years of service. She was a member of the Appleton Papers Quarter Century Club, member and past president of the Appleton BPW Club, a member of the Outagamie County Historical Society, and the Kaukauna Hobby and Craft Club. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Florence (Thomas) Appleton, Kaukauna; Mavis Jansen, Little Chute; nine step- grandchildren, Lori (Richard) Hedtke, David (Carol) Appleton, Stephen Appleton, Kim (Scott) Walbrun, DeAnn Appleton, Marie (Don) Niec, Georgia (Mark) Schroeder, Cynthia Gottschalk, and Renee Jansen; nine step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Crane, Appleton; further survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Joy was preceded in death by a step- daughter, Shirley Gottschalk, and a nephew. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with Deacon Patrick Whitcomb officiating. Oneida St. Appleton, Wis. 920-733-7383 Robert "Bob" Haack Following a brave 21-month battle with lung cancer and under the constant loving care of family and friends, Robert "Bob" Haack, age 70, died Tuesday night (April 18, 2000) in the surroundings he had loved - the log home he had built on a hill overlooking Gilbert Lake near Saxeville, Wisconsin. The family is deeply grateful to Dr. William Guenther, whose chemotherapy strategies helped extend Bob's life far beyond the initial diagnosis; to oncology RN "Jan" whose skills were only surpassed by her warmth; to Riverside Medical Clinic staff members, "Vicki," "Donna" and "Kathy" for their many kindnesses; and to St. Agnes Hospice and Sister Michaeleen, RN, who guided the caregivers in the medical/spiritual aspects of Bob's final week of life. Bob Haack was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, to George and Evelyn (Jenks) Haack on September 14, 1929. He attended public schools in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Following graduation there, he served stateside in the U.S. Navy and was Honorably Discharged. His bachelor's degree was earned at Oshkosh. In Fond du Lac, Yvonne "Vonnie" Zimmerman became his wife on June 14, 1952. They raised a family of three sons and a daughter. Their marriage of 32 years ended upon her death by lung cancer in 1984. Bob was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bruce Haack, and a brother, Donald Haack. Those who remain to celebrate Bob's life include two sons: Mr. Russell (Elizabeth) Haack, Naperville, Illinois; Mr. Jerry Haack, Waupaca; a daughter, Dr. Connie Haack-Hurlbut (Dr. Rick), Waupaca; a sister, Ms. Patricia Repp, Omro; a brother, Mr. Vernon (Ginger) Haack, Evergreen, Colorado; two previous daughters-in-law: Mrs. Barbara (Jim) Stotzheim and Ms. Shawn Haack; five cherished grandchildren: Sara and Kevin Haack, Jason and Jessie Haack and Jennifer Haack; four nephews, four nieces and several cousins; loving neighbors: Lori and Mike Morris; special friends: Sandy Pitzen, Don Murbach, Jim and Vicki Schmidt and Tom Shepeck, as well as a large circle of friends and close business associates gained nationwide during Bob's career as a manufacturers' agent who specialized in industrial safety products. In direct accordance with Bob's wishes, a simple graveside tribute will be conducted by family members at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000 at Hilltop Cemetery (near Saxeville, Waushara County) prior to interment beside his wife and near his son. Following the service, the family will host memory-sharing and refreshments at the Gilbert Lake Cabin. Jacques (nee Donahue) Menasha Formerly of Whitefish Bay, age 86, passed away Monday, April 17, 2000, following a long illness. Ann was born February 9, 1914, in Reedsburg, the oldest daughter of the late Earl and Frances Donahue. She resided in Reedsburg until moving to Milwaukee to attend Marquette University where she received a degree in nursing. Following graduation, Ann worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee, until her marriage to Joseph Jacques on December 28, 1943. They resided in Whitefish Bay where she worked with Joseph in his consulting engineering business for many years. Ann and Joseph shared 42 years together before his death in 1985. Following his death she moved to Menasha. Ann was a member of St. John Catholic Church of Menasha and a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Geist, Lisle, Illinois; and Judith Dresen, Menasha; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters- in-law, Mary Brice and Alice Jacques, both of Green Bay. In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julie, and a sister, Dorothy Stenerson. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25th at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2011 N. Oakland Ave., Milwaukee, with Father Tim Kitzke officiating. Onieda St., Appleton 920-733-7383 John Middleton 89 6th Street, Clintonville Age 85, died Wednesday morning, April 19, 2000, at the Greentree Health Care Center, Clintonville. John was born March 4, 1915, in Burlington, Wisconsin, the son of the late Roy and Carrie (Reed) Middleton. John moved to the Shiocton area where he graduated from High School in 1933. After serving in the Wisconsin CCC program for a year, he entered the United States Navy in 1934. During World War II, John served with the United States Merchant Marine until the war ended in 1945. On March 22, 1942, he was united in marriage to Karen Fosdal in Wisconsin Rapids. The couple moved to the Clintonville area where they operated a Dairy Farm Supply store from 1947 until 1978. During part of those years, they also operated a bulk milk tank distributorship. John was a 20-year past member of the Clintonville Lions Club. He was an active member of Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville. Survivors are his wife, Karen; a daughter, Betty Schmidt, Bloomington, Minnesota; two sons, Philip Middleton, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Richard Middleton, La Crosse, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Middleton, Milwaukee; three sisters, Jeannette McGlin, Shiocton; Genevieve Sear, Milwaukee; Caroline Middleton, Santa Barbara, California. John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Philip and Charles. "Bob" Rathsack 514 Clark St., Neenah Age 56, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 19, 2000. He was born November 7, 1943, in Appleton, son of Quintin and Kathleen (Hawley) Rathsack. Bob married Jean Stoffel on June 4, 1966, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Menasha. He attended UW-Oshkosh. Bob established a partnership in 1973 as a General Contractor for Delrar Inc., and retired March 1, 1989. In his retirement he stayed active in various business interests. He was active in his community, serving on various Boards of Directors. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Kermit Baumgartener. Laura Molly Ring, the daughter of John and Cynthia (Baumgartener) Ring, was born July 22, 1986, in Appleton. She was in the eighth grade at St. Paul's Lutheran School in New Ulm. She was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church and was confirmed on Sunday, April 9, 2000. She loved to read and sing, play piano and babysit. Laura loved little kids. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice. Irene H. Serwe Appleton Age 96, passed away on April 19, 2000, at Oakridge Gardens. Irene was born on February 2, 1904, in Appleton, to the late Emil and Mary (Greiner) Endter. On March 17, 1944, she married Alex Serwe in Appleton. He preceded her in death in 1974. Irene was employed at Zwicker Knitting Mills for nearly 40 years, and was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church. She is survived by her sister, Myra "Mickey" Newhouse, originally from Kaukauna; and several nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by four sisters, Irma Endter, Adele "Toots" La Fond, Orvilla "Val" Van Caster, Mildred "Milly" Horn; two brothers, Emery Endter, and Emil Jr. "Sonny" Endter; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
