He is survived by his son, Jacob Block, Appleton; his mother, Lou (Ted) Geborek, Appleton; his father, James (Susan) Block, West Allis; a sister, Jane (Jeff) Groth, Neenah; other special relatives and friends. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Wichmann Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Knitt officiating. Superior Street Appleton 739-1231 Arthur E. Brandt W1858 Shady Lane, New Holstein Age 80, died Thursday, April 20, 2000 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born on September 9, 1919 in Antigo, son of the late Otto and Linda (Kuhrs) Brandt. He married Marie E. Sadusky on November 29, 1947 at St. Boniface Parsonage in Manitowoc; she preceded him in death on March 6, 1999. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He worked for the Bacyrus-Erie Company in Milwaukee, the Manitowoc Ship Building Company and was a tool and die maker for the Newell Corporation in Chilton and Manitowoc until his retirement in March of 1985. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the Viking Bow & Gun Club, and the Winnebago East Shore Sportsman's Club. Survivors include four children: Robert (Mary) Brandt, New Holstein; Dr. Thomas Brandt, New Holstein; James (Janet) Brandt, Cato; Anne (Steve) Biebel, Green Bay; six grandchildren: Bridget (Tom) Klein, Plymouth; Kate (Justin) Savage, Minneapolis; Eric and Andrea Brandt, Cato; Craig and Sarah Brandt, Green Bay; two sisters: Margaret (Darwin) Hintz, Findlay, Ohio; Marie (Herbert) Hubach, Antigo. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Edith Brandt, and a brother, John Brandt. Funeral services will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton with the Rev. Mike Bigley S.D.S. officiating. Art and Marie's cremains will be buried together in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of services. Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton is assisting the family. Raymond J. Britten 429 Klein St., Kaukauna Age 87, died peacefully Sunday morning April 23, 2000 after a lengthy illness. He was born October 27, 1912 in Ladysmith, son of the late Nicholas and Katherine (Nilles) Britten. On October 13, 1939 Ray married the former Marie Verkuilen, the couple resided in Kaukauna their entire married lives. Ray worked for Thilamny Pulp and Paper and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna. He is survived by his wife, Marie, Kaukauna; four sons and five daughters-in-law: William (Leigh), John (Gail), all of Kaukauna; Don (Terri), Sherwood; Dave (Diane), Bailey, Colorado; Mary Britten, Kaukauna; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Rose Britten, Kaukauna; Patricia (Alfred) Hietpas, Little Chute; Nancy (Jack) Diedrich, Kaukauna; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, a brother, Harold Britten, King. He is further survived by his wife's family, Joe (Ella) Verkuilen, Green Bay; George (Marie) Verkuilen, Oneida; Elmer (Rosemary) Verkuilen, Gertrude Verkuilen, all of Appleton; Ann Verkuilen, Kaukauna; numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by two granddaughters, two sisters and brothers-in-law: Rose (Ralph) Kuehl, Ann (Earl) Brooks, four brothers and two sisters-in-law: Matt, Joseph, Nicholas (Helen) and Frank (Gertrude). A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna. She was born March 27, 1908 in Green Bay, daughter of the late John and Martha (Bessert) Zachowski. On June 12, 1934 she was married to Arwin Matthies. Mrs. Matthies was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Rantoul and the Ladies Aide. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Phillip and Bonnie Matthies, Reno, Nevada; Lowell and Carol Matthies, Appleton; six grandchildren: Shawn Matthies, Madison; Kurt (Danny Lynn) Matthies, Beale AFB, California; Tracy Matthies, Green Bay; Kenneth (Debbie) Matthies, Grand Chute; Neal Matthies, Oshkosh; Sheila (David) Abitz, Pewaukee; five great-grandchildren: Ryan, Evan and Alexandra Matthies, Haley and Mitchell Abitz; a great-great- grandson, Damon Wilz; a sister-in-law, Luella Zachowski, Chilton; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arwin on December 10, 1975; and a brother, Harry. Otto Appleton Age 81, unexpectedly passed to eternal life on Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Appleton Medical Center with her loving family at her side. She was born on June 5, 1918, in Appleton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Goerl) Schomisch. On November 11, 1944, she married Gerald Otto in Savannah, Georgia, while he was serving in the Army Air Corps. They returned to Appleton and had lived there since. She was a dedicated volunteer with the St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband Gerald; her children and grandchildren, Susan (Gregory) Talarczyk and Joel and Andy of Neenah; Barbara (Michael) Kimps of Trophy Club, Texas; Frederick "Fritz" Otto of Appleton; Michael (Susan) Otto of Appleton; Jeffrey (Mary Beth) Otto and Nick and Megan Ruth of Darboy; a sister, Eileen (Richard) Danner of Appleton; a brother Gerald (Anita) Schomisch of San Diego; numerous nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Margaret Schomisch of Kaukauna. She was preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
