William E. Alkire, farmer, P. O. Durand, Pepin county, was born at Durand April 13, 1864, and is a son of Isaac D. Alkire. He grew up on the farm and attended the Durand high school, from which he graduated in 1883. At twenty-one years of age he began life as a farmer, and now owns a well-improved farm of 150 acres, which is devoted chiefly to dairying. He married, September 8, 1885, Miss Carrie, daughter of Lucius Howard, who was born in Lima township. They have one child, Anna Belle. In politics Mr. Alkire is a republican, and has been clerk of Durand township since 1887.
