His educational opportunities were limited, as he was restricted to an attendance of 18 months in the common school of his district. As a farmer, however, he was well trained on the old homestead, on which he resided until he was 36 years old. Then in 1892 he bought a tract of land, consisting of 160 acres, adjoining his father's farm on the south, which he started to improve. In 1903 he bought 160 acres in section 6, Mondovi Township, Buffalo County, this latter tract, which was improved, adjoining his tract in Albany Township, Pepin County, on the south. On this farm, lying in two counties and townships, his residence being in section 6, Mondovi Township, Buffalo County, he has made valuable improvements. In 1909 he built on his Mondovi township tract a two- story frame house, consisting of an upright 30 by 30 by 20 feet with a wing 18 by 18 by 14 feet. He has also erected 2 frame barns, one 36 by 56 by 18 and the other 24 by 34 by 14 feet, and a granary 16 by 30 by 12 feet. On this farm he now has 240 acres under the plow and is also the owner of a good farm of 160 acres in Naples Township, Buffalo County, which is being operated by his son William. Mr. Gueldner raises Holstein and Shorthorn cattle, having a herd of 40 or 50 head. He also raises pure-blooded Percheron horses. Enterprising and Industrious, his undertakings have been crowned with success and he takes rank among the most prosperous citizens of his locality. He is a stockholder in the Farmers' Cooperative Creamery Company, of Mondovi, of which he was treasurer for three years and secretary for an equal length of time. In politics he is a Republican, and has served many years as chairman of the Mondovi town board, having been also for a number of years a director on the school board. In both capacities he has shown an intelligent regard for local interests and is an influential man in the community. Mr. Gueldner was married Aug 23, 1888, to Adelia Kummer, a native of Pepin county, and they have had seven children born to them as follows: William, born Nov. 24, 1889, who is now operating his father's farm in Naples township; Elsie and Rose, twins, who were born March 14, 1890, of whom the former is now the wife of Rev. Charles Weddel, Lutheran Pastor in Mondovi City, and the latter the wife of David Stringer, a farmer in Naples township, Buffalo county; Gustav, born Feb. 21, 1894, who is living on the home farm; Esther born June 15, 1898, who graduated from Mondovi City high school and is now a teacher, and Clarence born Oct. 3, 1899, who is living at home. Mr. Gueldner was raised in the faith of the Methodist Episcopal Church, but his wife and children are Lutherans. -Transcribed from the "History of Buffalo and Pepin Counties Wisconsin, 1919", page 504 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm
