JAMES HALLSWORTH, hardware merchant, Pepin, was born in England, March 28,1842. His father, George A. Hallsworth. came to the United States in 1856, and resided in Atsionville, N. J., then moved to Pittsfield, Mass., where he died, in 1859. James enlisted in Co. H, 17th Mass. Vol. July 22, 1861, and was mustered out in August, 1864. His regiment was in the 18th Army Corps. After he left the army, he went to work at his trade, as overseer of weaving-room, in woolen mill, at Louisville, Ky., and at other places until he came to Pepin, in 1877, and engaged in the hardware business. He was married, Dec. 7, 1866, to Miss Agnes West, of Findlay, Ohio.
