Milton Samuel Milliren was born at Pepin, April 27, 1858. In youth he attended the common school and the La Crosse Business College. At twenty-two years of age he began life on the river, also worked at farm labor and the carpenter's trade. December 5, 1880, he married Miss Clara J. Whitmarsh, and to them have been born two children: Iola and Byron Monroe. In 1881 Mr. Milliren went to Pipe Stone county, Minn., and made a tree claim, but soon after returned to Pepin. In 1885 he purchased his present residence, which is very pleasantly situated on the shore of Lake Pepin, about one mile below the village. Since 1887 he has been employed by the C., B. & N. R. R. Co. Mr. Milliren has always enjoyed good health, which fact he highly appreciates.
