James Shaw, farmer, P. O. Porcupine, Pepin county, was born near Shutesbury, Franklin county, Mass., January 17, 1844, a son of John and Rebecca Shaw. After the death of his mother James lived with a neighboring farmer until he was seventeen, when he went to Onondaga county, N. Y., and engaged in farming. In 1866 he came to Frankfort township, Pepin county, and purchased his present farm, which was then unimproved. For the past fifteen years Mr. Shaw has given considerable attenbtion to bee culture, and his apiary now comprises ninety swarms. January 17, 1870, Mr. Shaw married Miss Mary Loomis, and they are the parents of three children: Charles, William and Maude. In politics he is a republican.
