When six years old, he came with his parents to the vicinity of Hartford, Wis., where he grew up on the farm. He first worked as a brakeman, going west to Pike's Peak when the excitement was on. In October, 1869, he married Miss Sarah Curtis, who survives him. In 1893 they moved to Spring Valley, which has since been their home. Mr. Moffatt was quite proficient on the violin, and when younger used to play and call off for nearly every dance in the vicinity of Hartford; he has also done much playing here, though of late years not so much as formerly. The funeral occurred at the house Friday, July 17th, and was conducted by the Masons, of which order Mr. Moffatt had been a member for over forty years. The ceremony was conducted by F.W. Carpenter, of Maiden Rock. D.B. Johns, F. Bahr, Frank Craine, Wm. McCoy, Wm. Greer and E. Hunter acted as pall Bearers. C.A. Hawn carried the Bible as the oldest Mason Present.
