Clipping from Stevens Point Daily Journal 6 September 1951 Submitted by Rick Campen "Art" Redfield, Veteran Clerk At Post Office, Taking a Rest A familiar face is missing at one of the front windows at the Stevens Point post office. Arthur R. Redfield, 715 Wyatt Avenue, clerk at the window, is now on vacation after which he will take sick leave in an effort to recuperate. If he does not feel able to resume his duties at the end of that time, he will apply for retirement. Redfield began as a substitute clerk in 1905 and a year later was appointed a regular clerk. He has remained a clerk ever since, although for a time he held the title of special clerk until this title was abolished. He is the senior clerk at the post office and is the oldest employee both in seniority and in years. The veteran clerk has served under seven postmasters, Henry Curran, Dan Frost, Alex Krembs, A. E. Redfield, who was his uncle, Ferdinand A. Hirzy, Herman J. Glinski and Joseph A. Peck. Assistant postmasters during this 46-year period were Henry Curran, Jr., Charles E. Wert, Robert C. Porter, Frank J. Abb and Ben Redfield. The superintendents of mails were L. B. Rivers, Russell C. Moen and Charles Abb. While Redfield's health in generally good, it has been increasingly difficult for him to stand for hours at the post office window. Among his recollections are the days of his boyhood when he was a Daily Journal carrier-52 years ago.
