John B Gray Burial Site, section 27, Lanark, Portage County, WI. Township 22 North--Range 10 East. Copied in 1973 by Wayne and Alta Guyant. In a wooded area of small pines and scrub oaks, approximately 200 yards west of the Hideout night club on highway 54, then to the south past an old dwelling basement or another 100 yards is this burial site. The marker with the following inscription that reads: John B Gray, died 12 Aug 1863, aged 50 years. It was standing at an angle, when we copied it, and when we checked a month later, we found it broken in several parts and piled in a heap. The marker had stood for 100 years before someone just had to destroy it. Tessie Boushley of Neenah informed us that her grandfather, John B Gray and a daughter were buried there, having died of scarlet fever, and perhaps there were others.
