Obituary: Ira Barker, Portage County Wisconsin Stevens Point Weekly Journal 30 Jul 1892 (p 4) Death of an Old Settler Ira Barker, who perhaps was the oldest man in Portage county, died at his home in Buena Vista, on Tuesday, July 26th, aged 99 years. The deceased was born near Ithica, New York and moved to Buena Vista thirty years ago, where he resided until his death. The funeral was held on Thursday from the Liberty Corners M. E. church, Rev. Neff of Plover, officiating. His remains being followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of old friends and neighbors. The deceased had enjoyed good health, and it was anticipated that he would at least reach his 100th birthday, which had he lived, would have occurred on the 12th of next September. Three weeks ago, however, he had a hard fall, which no doubt hastened his death. He was a kind and affectionate father and a good neighbor and was universally respected by all who knew him. He served in the war of 1812, being then a lad of 18 years. He leaves a wife and five children. They are Ira of this city, Theodore of Grand Rapids, Delphine of Oshkosh and Mary and Mrs. Flora Aldrich, who reside in Buena Vista. ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruby Upthagrove, © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************
