Obituary: Portage County, Wisconsin: John C. COOLEY Stevens Point Daily Journal March 27, 1899 Died at Rosendale J.C. Cooley dies at his home in Rosendale, Fond du Lac county, Friday, aged 65 years. His death was due to heart trouble and pneumonia. Mr. Cooley was the father of Mrs. G.A. Stuart of this city and Mrs. M.H. Chase of Fond du Lac. Mrs. Stuart went down from here last Tuesday and Mr. Stuart Sunday afternoon. The funeral was held today at 1 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart will probably return tomorrow and bring with them Mrs. Cooley, who is left along, and she may conclude to live here permanently. The deceased also leaves a son, John S. Cooley, of Kaukauna. Mr. Cooley will be remembered by many Stevens Pointers, who were connected with the Wisconsin Central's early history. He was a railroad contractor and foreman and built the road into this city in 1872. J.P. Dorsey was the conductor of the construction train and the late Ralph W. Taylor was one of his leading foremen.
