Obituary: Portage County, Wisconsin: Josephine (Krembs) JACOBS Gazette, Wed., March 3, 1909 Mrs. P.J. Jacobs is Dead After Long Illness Well Known Young wife and Mother Passed to her Long Rest at 3 o'clock This Morning. After years of patient suffering, Mrs. P.J. Jacobs is now at rest, the end coming quietly and peacefully at the family home, corner of Wisconsin and Pine streets, at 3 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Jacobs had not in good health for over six years, and five years ago last summer submitted to an operation at St. Mary's hospital, Oshkosh. Several months during the following winter were spent at the Sacred Heart Sanitarium, Milwaukee, and in August, 1904, she left for Colorado Springs, Co, accompanied by her children, where they remained until the 9th of last June, when they returned to Stevens Point. Her mother and Mr. Jacobs accompanied them to the Colorado city, he returning, but made frequent visits there during the nearly four years they were away, the last time to bring them home last summer. It was hoped that the climate of the distant state would prove permanently beneficial to Mrs. Jacobs, but such was not to be, and on the 10th of last October she became much worse and since the holidays had been constantly confined to her bed, failing rapidly during the past five or six weeks. Her demise, however, came sooner than expected by those near and dear to her and was due to tubercular trouble. Josephine Krembs was born in this city March 23, 1868, being nearly 41 years of age, and was the second daughter of Mrs. Catherine Krembs and the late Chas. Krembs. She was educated in St. Stephen's parochial school and was married to Peter J. Jacobs, June 27, 1892. Stevens Point has always been her home, and here she has resided with the exception of the time she spent in Colorado in a van effort to regain her shattered health. Besides her husband, she leaves four children, Carl, Louise, Esther and Ruth, the oldest in his 14th year and the youngest in her 7th year, the others being 11 and 9 respectively. She also leaves her aged mother, who has been her constant companion during nearly all her illness, two sisters, Mrs. E.D. Glennon and Mrs. Eugene Downey, of this city, and three brothers, Wm. C. Krembs of Oshkosh, and Louis A. and Herman Krembs of this city. Nothing was left undone, no expense was spared by a devoted husband to regain for her the valued health that she once enjoyed, and at home and abroad relatives and friends were alike kind and considerate for her welfare. Mrs. Jacobs was of a domestic temperament, her girlhood life being devoted to her parental home and after her marriage to her own home, being ever watchful for the welfare and comfort of others, a trait that manifested itself up to almost the last hour before her death. She was a true, noble wife, a kind mother, daughter and sister, a sincere christian, and the sympathy of all who knew her goes out to those who mourn. The funeral will take place to 9 o'clock next Friday morning from St. Stephen's Catholic church, Rev. W. J. Rice officiating, with interment in the parish cemetery. ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, 10 June 2004© All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************
