Obituary: Portage County, Wisconsin: Mrs. O.M. JONES Stevens Point Journal Feb. 2, 1899 Memoir. From her home at Buena Vista, Mrs. O.M. Jones was welcomed to the upper fold December 29,at 9:30 a.m. On the following Saturday at 2 p.m., the funeral service was held from the M.E. Church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Buena Vista cemetery. The pall bearers were M. Scanlan, S. Whittaker, John Dineen, Jos. Precourt, F. Huntley, and Warren Onan. Mrs. Jones was born at Homer, New York, March 13, 1825, and grew to womanhood in the East. In 1844 she was married to Paleman Jones. Leaving New York in 1854, they came and located at Plover; and after residing there for three and a half years, they moved to Buena Vista. Mr. Jones died seventeen years ago. Five children survive, they are Miss Olive R. Jones, a teacher at Bozeman, Mont.; Mrs. F.B. Vail, Elgin, Neb.; Mrs. J.H. Snyder, Mallard, Iowa; and Mr. F.B. Thompson, residing at Buena Vista. The daughters were all present during a part of their mother's illness; and Mrs. Vail and Mrs. Thompson were present to its close. Mrs. Jones had been ailing for several weeks. Some five years ago there was evidence of decline; and last fall while visiting her daughters in Iowa and Nebraska, a general breakdown was threatening. And after returning home with her daughter, Mrs. Thompson, she gradually waned, until for some time she had ceased to be in the battle. But she continued in righteousness, and waited with sweet patience for God to say "It is enough, come up higher." ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, 10 June 2004© All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************
