Clipping from Stevens Point Daily Journal 23 January 1908 Submitted by Rick Campen CARL J. LANGE Heart Trouble Results In Death During Sleep. Carl J. Lange passed away this morning at about 9 o'clock while peacefully sleeping at his home at 713, Center Avenue. He had been slightly indisposed since last Friday, when he came in from the shed where he was piling wood and complained of a lame back. He had been up and about the house, however, every day since and this morning arose about 6:30 to build the kitchen fire, but finding that his daughter had already attended to that he took a chair in the sitting room and sat by the fire for about an hour. Then, remarking that he had not slept well the night before and expressing the wish that his doctor could give him something to make him sleep, he went upstairs to his room and returned to bed. His son, Will, passed the door about 8 o'clock and Mr. Lange requested him to close it as he wished it quiet so that he could get to sleep. About 9 o'clock his son-in-law, Arthur Redfield, took his breakfast up to him and was greatly shocked to find him dead. Dr. Southwick was summoned and expressed the opinion that be had died only a few moments before being found, as the result of heart failure, incident to the grip. The deceased was born near Danzie, West Preusen, Germany, on July 3, 1834. He was married in the old country but brought. his family to this country soon afterward. They resided for some time at DePere and later at Auburndale, but for about 24 years had resided in or near this city. Mrs. Lange passed away in 1901. They are survived by six children, Mrs. George O'Brien of Auburndale, Louis Lange of DePere, Fred Lange of Minot, N. D., Will Lange and Mrs. Arthur Redfield of this city and Mrs. George E. Lant of Almond. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Conrad Querin of Lincoln, Neb. Another son, August, was killed a year ago in a railroad accident near Burlington and was buried just a year ago today. The deceased in his younger days had been a hardworking, frugal and respected citizen and leaves many friends to mourn his death. The funeral will be held from St. Paul's Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Carl Schmidt officiating.
