Obituary: Portage County, Wisconsin: G.N. LLOYD Stevens Point Daily Journal Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1899 G. N. Lloyd A former Resident of Stevens Point Dies at Berlin Berlin Evening Journal:- "G.N. Lloyd, who serious illness has been mentioned, died at 10 a.m. Saturday. He was taken sick on the eighth with grip which resulted in typhoid pneumonia and for several days his recovery has been considered doubtful. The deceased is an old and well known resident. A native of New York state, he came to Berlin about 37 years ago, about the time of his marriage to Mary E. Strope, of Plover, Wis., who survives him. They never had any children but adopted four, all of whom are dead except Miner of Oconomowoc, who was at the beside of his foster father when he passed away. G. N. Lloyd was formerly in the hotel business in Berlin, where the Park hotel now stands. Later he kept a grocery establishment where Lear & Haner's place now stands. For many years past he has been deputy street commissioner in charge of the sidewalks in the city. He died on his sixty-third birthday. The funeral will take place Tuesday. In the death of Mr. Lloyd, Berlin loses another old and respected resident." Mr. Lloyd formerly lived in Stevens Point. It was his father who built the house which now stands at the corner of Center avenue and Jefferson street and is used for school purposes by the city. It was built and for many years stood on what is now the normal campus on Main street, where it was occupied as a residence by the late E.D. Brown of Rhinelander. The house was originally built for a hotel. The Miss Mary Strope, who became Mr. Lloyd's wife, is a sister of John W.
