Obituary: Portage County, Wisconsin: Edward MONDAY Stevens Point Daily Journal April 5, 1899 Pioneer Resident of Almond Passes Away Edward Money died at his home in Almond Tuesday mornning at 7 o'clock. The nature of his fatal illness has not been learned. Mr. Monday was an Irishman by descent, but was born in lower Canada on January 25, 1832, and was the fourth child in a family of twelve. He never attended school a day in his life, but was taught the rudiments by his father, who was a well educated gentleman. He came to Wisconsin when he was 18 years of age, working in the woods for several years. On October 30, 1853, he married Miss Emma Murray of Columbia county. In 1854 they came to Almond and Mr. Monday purchased the first 100 acres of his present farm at $1.25 per acre. The first crop he raised on the farm was wheat and he had to draw it 40 miles to the market at Berlin with an ox team. Mrs. Monday died in 1878 leaving four children, Mrs. A.D. Rogers of Almond, Mrs. Max Smith and Mrs. John Chamberlain of this city and Mrs. Wyman smith of Wausau. In 1882 Mr. Monday married Miss Mary Dietson of Almond and they have one child, Miss Mabel. Mr. Monday is widely and very favorably known in the southern part of the county and has represented Almond on the county board, being elected on a Republican ticket. He was a prominent member of Almond lodge, No. 284, I.O.O.F. The funeral will be held at Almond tomorrow.
