Obituary: Portage County, Wisconsin: Pauline E. (Hovde) RINGNESS Stevens Point Daily Journal March 27, 1899 Mrs. Pauline E. Ringness died at her home at 208 North Third street, at 9:20 this morning, after a short illness with peritonitis and heart trouble. She had been sick only since Thursday; but the skill of her physicians and nurses proved unavailing. Mrs. Pauline E. Hovde was born near Christiana, Norway, on July 12, 1832. In 1860 she was married to Hermon O. Ringness, and together they came to this country in 1866. Mr. Ringness was a shoemaker, and followed his trade in this city from the time of his arrival from the old country until his death on July 6, 1886. First he was employed by other shoemakers; but later established the business on Third street still carried on by his son, Alex. Mrs. Ringness is survived by five children. They are Mrs. F.L. Miller of Beaver Dam, Alex of this city, Ole and Henry of Peoria, Ill., and John of Minneapolis. All will be in attendance at the funeral. John arrived home on the early morning train, Ole and Henry came at 5:25 this evening, and Mrs. Miller will come up on the Portage train tonight. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon, from the house at 2 o'clock, Rev. Christian Hovde of Amherst, pastor of Trinity Norwegian Lutheran church, officiating. Mrs. Ringness had been a member of that church since childhood. The interment will take place in the Episcopal cemetery. Mrs. Ringness' sphere of activity was her own home. Her chief ambition was the welfare of her children. She leaves to the state a noble heritage- four sons and a daughter whom any community would be proud to number among its citizens. Backed by character and a willingness to work the four sons have risen to responsible positions: Alex as stated above is the proprietor of a shoe store on Third street; Henry is superintendent of the Peoria water works; Ole is formean of construction for the same institution; and John is a mail carrier in Minneapolis. ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, June 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************
