Schilling Dead Respected Citizen of the Town of Almond Dies Suddenly- Funeral Thursday Afternoon One of the first residents of the town of Almond, George F. Schilling, died at his home at 8:45 o'clock Tuesday morning, after a short illness, although he had been a great sufferer and badly crippled with rheumatism for several years. The announcement of his death came as a surprise, as his friends and acquaintances supposed he was in his usual health. His wife recently recovered from a long and nearly fatal illness. The deceased gentleman was born in the Province of Waldeck, Germany, and was 87 years of age the 11th of last August. He came to America in 1849, locating in Milwaukee, where he remained a couple of years and then came to the town of Almond, where he located upon the homestead upon which he died. May 11, 1861, Mr. Schilling was married to Miss Caroline Young and to them twelve children were born, two dying in infancy, and those who survive are Mrs. Emma Wood of Fifield, John H. and Frank L. of Minocqua, George H. and Edward C. of Abbotsford, Dan J. of Benson, Minn., Fred A. of Almond, Mrs. F.W. Leahy of LaCrosse, Mrs. Ella Wantler of Joliet, Ill., and Miss Loretta, who is at home. The only other relative in this country is Rev. F.C. Schilling, of Loganville, Sauk county, a nephew of the deceased, who for several years was pastor of the Lutheran church in this city. Mr. Schilling was one of the most honorable of men, thoroughly honest and conscientious in everyday life and was universally respected in the community where he had lived nearly sixty years. He was a sincere christian and his good works and example will live after him. The funeral will take place from the residence at one o'clock Thursday afternoon, thence to Lone Pine school house, where services will be conducted by Rev. Ludwig of Almond, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev.
