MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE FIRST CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT Green, Kenosha, Racine, Rock and Walworth Counties. LAWRENCE HENRY SMITH (Rep.) was born at Racine on September 15, 1892. His early education was received in the elementary schools of Racine and the Milwaukee University School. After attending Milwaukee State Teachers College for two years he enrolled at Marquette University where he was graduated from the law school in June 1923 with the degree of LL.B. Since that time he has been a practicing attorney in Racine. During World War I Mr. Smith was in the infantry of the 32nd Division from 1917 to 1919. From 1938 to 1939 he was department commander of the American Legion Department of Wisconsin. He has also served as president of the Racine Count Bar Association. In a special election in August 1941 he was elected to Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Congressman Bolles of the first district. He was re-elected in 1942 and again in 1944.
