Oct 10, 1902 October 10, 1902 Grandchildren of the late James Yates of Sylvannia promise to contest against will. When the last will & testament of the late James Yates was presented for probate in the county court yesterday, objection was made to the same by the guardian of Leslie M. & J.M Payne; grandchildren of the deceased, and this means a contest - It appears that the grandchildren are not mentioned in the will. All of the estate and other properties are going to widow. Just what the estate of the deceased is worth is not stated, but the conservative estimate placed it from 5,000 to 10,000. James Yates was one of the pioneer residents of the county. For possibly 25 years, he was the postmaster off & on in Sylvania. Some people say he held the office for a longer period than any other postmaster in the state. Mr. Yates was a good & honest man. By hard work, careful attention to his farm, and other business; he managed to save considerable money.
