Ethel May Hawker 

RACINE - Ethel May Hawker 93, of 
5111 Wright Avenue, passed away at 
Lincoln Village Convalescent 
Center on Sunday, She was born in 
Kansasville on November 16, 1905, 
to Jabez and Caroline (nee 
Litzenberger ) Payne. She married 
Raymond P. Hawker at First 
Congregational Church in Madison 
on July 14, 1934 

A graduate of Whitewater State 
Teachers College, she taught 
grades 1 through 8 for 1 year at 
the Union Grove Grade School and 
kindergarten and lower elementary 
grades for 21 years in the Racine 
Unified School District, retiring 
in 1969. 

Mrs. Hawker was a member of 
Plymouth Congregational Church, 
Wisconsin Retired Teachers 
Association, and Racine County 
Retired Teachers Association. 

Surviving her are a son and 
daughter-in-law, Richard and 
Rebecca of Baileys Harbor; and a 
grandson, Robert of Eau Claire. 
Preceding her in death are her 
husband, Raymond P. Hawker; son, 
John P. Hawker of New York City, 
N.Y. one sister and brother-in-
law, Dorothy and Bernard Dettmann; 
and two brothers and sisters-in-
law, Leslie and Gertrude Payne and 
Jay and Amanda Payne. 

A memorial service will be held at 
Plymouth Congregational Church in 
Racine on Thursday, August 5, 
1999, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Lloyd 
Hall officiating Entombment will 
be at Graceland Cemetery 
Columbarium at a later date. 
Friends may meet with the family 
at the church on Thursday from 10 
a.m. until the time of the 
service. In lieu of flowers, 
memorials to Plymouth 
Congregationa Church have been 
suggested.
