Racine Co., Wisconsin OBIT: Augustus Humbert SUBJECT: Obit of Augustus Humbert SUBMITTER: Marie Hosdil EMAIL: emhosdil@1st.net DATE: Nov 05, 1999 PASSWORD> SURNAMES: HUMBERT Waterford Post On Monday evening, August 17, 1885, at his home in Caldwell’s Prairie, Wisconsin, Mr. Augustus Humbert died at the age of 57 years. The deceased was born in the Province of Lorraine, France, in 1828. When he was in his third year, his parents emigrated to this country and settled in Colosse, Oswego Co., New York, where they remained until 1854. Then they removed to Racine Co., Wisconsin and settled on the farm on which he died at Caldwell. Mr. Humbert was widely known as an extensive breeder of blooded sheep and one of Caldwell’s most sturdy farmers. He was highly respected by all. He was an honest and upright man, and withal a truly good citizen. He leaves a wife and four sons to mourn his loss. The painful circumstance in relation to the death of his brother, Prosper, who was killed at a railroad crossing near Milwaukee on September 3, 1884, is still fresh in the minds of our readers, and now Augustus’ sudden death casts a shadow of gloom over the entire community. Mr. Humbert was ill only a week, and the news of his death was received with the keenest expressions of sorrow by everyone here, many not being aware of his sickness. On account of the conditions of the remains, it was deemed advisable to intern them Tuesday evening, and accordingly word was sent out to the neighbors, all of whom responded. Rev. Davidson conducted the services at the grave. The next day the funeral sermon was preached at the church by Rev. A. Porter and a large assemblage was present to pay their last sad tribute of respect to the departed. ----------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities as long as this message remains on all copied material.
