Surnames: HAYBURN, COPLAND, BRONSON, CAIRNS Racine, April, 1898 Christopher C. HAYBURN died at his home on Palica Avenue last evening of general debility. The deceased was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, May 1, 1835, and had been a resident of Racine nearly forty years. He was a blacksmith by trade and had been employed at the J.I. Case T.M. Co. for many years. May 21, 1862 when the rebellion broke out, he went to the front in Co. F. Twenty-second regiment, Wis- consin volunteers, and was in service to the end of the war. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Brentwood and was confined in the Libby prison for three weeks. He participated in Sheridan’s march to the sea and was in the grand review at Washington, D.C. May 24, 1865. He was a good citizen, a brave soldier and a man held in the highest honor by his fellow men. A wife, two daughters and two sons survive to mourn his death. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home.
