Lewis Blackmun Passes Away ONE OF THE OLDEST SETTLERS IN TOWN OF UNION Mrs. H. Lewis Blackmun died at the home of her son Jonathan L. Blackmun, two miles northeast of this city at 8:20 Sunday morning, Feb. 9, 1913, aged 93 years and 7 months. Mary Owen was born near Pennyan, Yates County, N. Y., on July 16, 1819. At the age of 10 years she went with her parents to Seneca County, Ohio. She was married March 8, 1838 to H. Lewis Blackmun. Mr. and Mrs. Blackmun came west in 1848 and settled in Union township, and Mrs. Blackmun has lived in the immediate neighborhood ever since. Mr. Blackmun died on July 8, 1844 (sic), and since his death Mrs. Blackmun has resided with the children. The past 17 years she has spent with her son Jonathan. She was the mother of four children, Jonathan L., Mrs. Cynthia E. Little of Springfield, Mo., Lantie, who died in infancy and Charles G., of Evansville. Besides her three children she leaves five grandchildren, Lewis Little and Mrs. Rose Blackman of Springfield, Mo., Fred Blackmun of chicago, Mrs. Effie Glidden and Doris Blackmun of Evansville; also six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She had six brothers, all of whom are dead with the exception of Alanson, of Bloomville, Ohio, who is at present in a very critical condition. Mrs. Blackmun was one of the two remaining charter members of the Freewill Baptist church of this city, Mr. W. W. Patchin, now residing in Los Angeles, Cal., being the sole surviving charter member. She is the last of the old settlers of the town of Union. Nine weeks ago she was taken ill and has since been confined to her bed. Prior to that time she had been remarkably well for one of her age, and had been able to make daily trips to her room upstairs. On her ninety-third birthday she was given a party by relatives and church friends, and the occasion was much enjoyed by all, her reminiscences of fomer years being very interesting to the visitors. The funeral services were held from the home of her son Jonathan on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. C. H. Myers officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in Maple Hill Cemetery.
