Mr. Ellis had been a sufferer for many years, and had gone there about ten days ago to consult those skilled surgeons. An examination revealed that he was suffering from abscesses in the stomach and an operation was to have been performed on Wednesday. Mr. Ellis was born in Sheffield, England, seventy-three years ago. When a mere boy he came to this country with his parents, locating at Janesville. He lived in and near that city for four or five years, then moved to a farm west of Dayton and after making a trip to the West in search of health, he located at Brooklyn where he lived until the death of his father-in-law, when he moved to Belleville. Later he came to Evansville and retired on account of poor health. He was known as a highly respected citizen. Forty-eight years ago next October he was united in marriage to Miss Flora Fitts, who is left to mourn his loss. No children were born to the union. A brother, Thomas ELLIS, of Clinton, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Edward Jordan, of this city, also survive him. Funeral services will be held at his late home on South First street at two o'clock this afternoon, the Rev. Malcolm F. Miller officiating. Interment at Maple Hill cemetery.
