Mr. Gardner was a member of the horse buying firm of Gardner & Spoor, and well known in this place. March 10, 1896, The Tribune, p. 1, col. 3, Evansville, Wisconsin The death of Mr. Henry Gardner seemed very sudden to his friends here as he had been seen upon our streets but a short time ago. A severe attack of pneumonia was the cause of his death. Mr. Gardner has been in business with Mr. Chas. Spoor of this city for some years, buying and shipping to Chicago carriage horses and in that way he had made a wide circle of business acquaintances who will be sorry to hear of his death. The Badger, March 14, 1896, p. 1, col. 3, Evansville, Wisconsin The funeral of Henry Gardner was held from the residence in Magnolia Wednesday. Further particulars of his demise have been received, and it is said that the direct cause of his death was a kick from a horse he received some time ago. The shoe struck an enlarged vein in his groin and he was laid up many weeks. An operation had to be performed and he recovered to make a trip, but in his haste to be out he contracted a cold and suffered a relapse followed by pneumonia that ended in death. He was a native of Kentucky and was about fifty years of age. A wife and four children, from twenty years to a babe of six months survive him. He was one of the most successful horse buyers and gained the confidence and friendship of all with whom he ever dealt and made friends even in ordinary conversation. Evansville people knew him well and his death was a shock to all his acquantiances. The Tribune, p. 1, col. 6, Evansville, Wisconsin, March 17, 1896.
