Holden passed away early Monday evening, March 6, 1922, following an illness of a year's duration. He was born Dec. 22, 1844 in Canada, close to the New York state line, and was the oldest of seven children. When a baby, his parents moved to Fort Covington, N. Y., and here he grew to young manhood. In 1864, he answered the call of his country, enlisted and fought with General Phil Sheridan from Petersburg to Appomatox. After being discahrged form army service, he returned to Fort Covington and remained there until 1879 when he came to Wisconsin, and has been living in or near Evansville since that time. On Feb. 6, 1881, he was married to Mary Clarissa Reilly and to the union nine children were born. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife and seven children, five sons, Ray of Center, John of La Valle, George and Willard of Chicago, Harold of this city, and two daughters, Mrs. Edgar Horne and Mrs. Russell Weary, both of Evansville. He is survived by two brothers, David and James Holden of Fort Covington, N. Y. Always a considerate husband and father, and at the end, a most patient sufferer, he will be greatly missed by the immediate family. A large circle of friends also regret his death, for a kindly spirit and a willingness to tender help at all times to neighbors and friends was always manifest in him. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Paul's church. The G.A.R. men attended the funeral in a body. March 9, 1922, The Evansville Review, Evansville, Wisconsin
