Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Lucy A. LEONARD ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, April 2008 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Obituary Lucy A. Leonard was born in Pennsylvania on June 24, 1844. At the age of two years she came with her parents to Magnolia, where she lived until she was grown to womanhood. On January 7, 1865, she was married to Isaac D. Clifford of Magnolia. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford came to Evansville soon after their marriage, and Mr. Clifford engaged in business here until the time of his death twenty-three years ago. Following her husband's death Mrs. Clifford lived alone in her home on Mill street until her health began to fail last fall, and she went to Racine to join the family of a son. She died on May 10, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 6 days. Her body was brought her and on May 13th buried in Maple Hill cemetery, beside the bodies of her husband, and a daughter. She is survived by two sons, A. B. Clifford, Racine, D. B. Clifford, San Francisco, and a grandson, David M. Clifford, Racine, besides her more distant relatives, all of whom are mourning her passing from among them. She was the mother of two who went before her, Charles who died at early manhood, and Bessie, who died at the age of four years. Mrs. Clifford was a lifelong member and willing worker in the Methodist church of Evansville. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and a true friend. She is one whose fellowship and helping hands will be greatly missed, but her influence will stay long in the lives of all who know her. It has been hard to give her up, but she has earned her rest.
