Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Rissa TAGGERT ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, April 2008 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ RISSA TAGGERT 1851-1925 Rissa TAGGERT was born March 4, 1851, departing this life at her Evansville home Friday, February 13, 1925. The deceased was the daughter of William and Velvina TAGGERT who were among the earliest settlers of Rock County and made her home in her childhood on her father's farm, three miles west of Evansville. Receiving a good education, she became a school teacher and taught in the Country schools until her mariage with John Tullar, himself a school teacher, October 27, 1874. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Tullar settled on a farm, where they lived happily, moving to this city fifteen years ago, when they purchased their present home on West Church Street. Owing to a good education and natural qualifications as a leader, Mrs. Tullar was elected a member of the City Board of Education, a place she held until about 5 years ago, when she retired from public life. Ever taking an interest in public and benevolent affairs Mrs. Tullar was for many years connected with the Methodist Episcopal church and as a member of the Eastern Star, where she served a term of Worthy Matron and did much to help in the establishing and work of that order. Mrs. Tullar was a woman of clear vision and fairness of purpose, qualifications which won the respect and confidence of all who knew her and the results of her work in the educational and benevolent circles of this city will long be felt. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, at the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. F. P. Hanaman, officating. The pall bearers were, N. R. Buckley, Asa B. Fellows, J. S. Pullen, Fred Franklin, P. D. Pearsall, and W. S. Spratler. Interment was in Maple Hill cemetery. Those left to mourn her loss are her husband and several nieces and nephews. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Gordon Richardson, Crandon; Miles Tullar, Lennox, South Dakota; Mrs. Frank Newman, Mrs. Fred Tullar and son, Miles, Chetek; Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Meyers, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Meigs, Janesville; Miss Angie Greenman, Chicago. CARD OF THANKS We take this measure to thank all those who so kindly assisted us during the illness of our beloved wife and relative, Mrs. Rissa Tullar, both with words of sympathy and acts of kindness. Especially do we wish to thank those who so kindly contributed flowers and cars for funeral purposes. John Tullar and Relatives. February 19, 1925, Evansville Review, Evansville, Wisconsin
