Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Lillie Gertrude JONES ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ OBITUARY Lillie Gertrude Jones, youngest child of Ira and Sarah J. Jones, first opened her eyes to the light of the world, on July 4, 1854, and closed them in the sleep, which knows no waking, in the early morning of July 10, 1921. Death came to her at the old farm home, where she was born, and which she loved so dearly, and from which home her young brother, Ira A. preceded her across the "River" only five weeks before. In her earlier years, she was an earnest and successful teacher, but ill health forced her to give up the work she loved, and most of her later years were spent quietly at home. She was a great reader and enjoyed greatly the best thoughts of our best authors. She united with the M. E. church in early womanhood and was always a faithful member, although not well enough to attend its services often, in later years. One brother, Frank E. of California, is the surviving member of her father's family but many nephews and nieces, will cherish the memory of "Aunt Gertie," as amongst their dearest recollections. "After life's fitful fever She sleeps well." Funeral services were conducted at the home three miles south of town, Rev. A. W. Barnlund conducted the services.
