Winter, on Jug Prairie, Friday, Feb. 23, 1894, at 11:50 a.m. Although in her 78th year, she was a lively, jovial woman and always had a kind word and good advice for everyone. She was born in Hope Center, Hamilton County, N. Y., and came to Wisconsin in the early days, settling near Evansville, where she has always lived, being one of its oldest settlers. A fond, loving mother, and a kind and true friend, she had gained the confidence, respect, and esteem of the entire community. She was a true devoted christian and had been a member of the Methodist church for a great many years. She reared a family of seven children, six of whom survive her, Mrs. Nathaniel Ballard, Mrs. M. A. McKinney, Mrs. Ed Winters, Mr. Josiah Carpenter, and Mr. Wm. Carpenter of Evansville, and Mr. John Carpenter of Janesville. The funeral was held from the Methodist church on Monday afternoon, the Rev. W. W. Stevens, of Fort Atkinson, officiating and was largely attended.
